CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 3 -The Traditional Around Labor-Day Days of Togetherness in Ligonier, PA This year, Labor Day came on Monday, September 2nd. The Presbyters’ Association met on Sunday, September 1st. On Monday (Labor Day), they had a combined Worship Service in the morning at 11:00 a.m. together with the Ministerial Association, concluding the service with Holy Communion in the Bethlen Chapel on the Hill. On the agenda was a report from the 21 st Century Committee. The main speaker this year was Rev. Maria Papp from Welland, Ontario - Canada. She spoke on her recently-published book “The Story of Your People”, with particular focus on the history of the Canadian Hungarians. The Ministerial Association meeting continued into the next day. The guest speaker of the Ministerial Association this year was Dr. Géza Erdélyi, the bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Churches in Slovakia. He gave an appealing presentation about our sister-churches in Slovakia, who suffer more than any of the others in any part of the Globe. Greatly disappointing presentations were delivered on the Reformed World Alliance’s meeting in Debrecen by the participants, regarding resolutions affecting magyar churches of the world. Dr. Edwin Elliot presented an admirable report on assisting our churches in Transylvania by a Dutch-Reformed assisting committee and the “Christian Observer”. That gracious help will now also be extended to our suffering churches in Slovakia. This year’s meeting elected the new officers for the next two years. Rev. István Torok was elected as president; Rev. Lajos Medgyesi as vice president; Rev. Albert Kovács as treasurer; Rev. Barnabas Roczey as secretary; Rev. Paul Kantor was retained as Canadian vice president and Dr. Stephen Szabó as honorary president. The installation was conducted by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, bishop. A very impressive birthday celebration was performed in honor of Dr. Stephen Szabó by the joined two groups and a Declaration in Latin was read by Bishop Vitéz with the richest superlatives of all titles he has achieved in his long life. /-------------------------------------------------------\ Bridgeport, CT Dayton, OH Worridge, IL Kalamazoo, Ml Those interested in applying for these positions are asked to contact the Bishop.
