CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 2 -AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTÜSOKLAPJA John Calvin Our Annual Meeting May 20-24, 1997 - Ligonier, PA In the former Lord Ligonier Inn (Now The Ramada Inn) The Annual Meeting of the Calvin Synod Conference of the United Church of Christ, will be held from the 20th of May to the 24th, in Ligonier, PA. This is the constitutional meeting of our congregations with legislative, administrative and jurisdictional powers invested in our Synod for the benefit of all local congregations. This year’s meeting will again be an historical meeting with a very important and heavy agenda. The opening service will be followed by Holy Communion. Our democratic system of church government operates through the balanced power of elected ministerial and lay delegates from all our local congregations based in ten states in America. It is indeed extremely important that all lay delegates (one from each congregation) should accompany the pastor for this legislative meeting. The Bishop’s usual letter with all the details will be sent to all congregations. □□□ Classis Meetings in Preparation for the Annual Synod Meeting The Lakeside Classis met in Columbus, Ohio with the Rev. István Nyeste presiding; the Central Classis in Pittsburgh, PA, with Dean Rev. Dr. Aladár Komjáthy presiding; the Western Classis, with the Rev. Károly K. Ludwig presiding; the Eastern Classis, with Dean Albert A. Kovács presiding. Overtures from all 4 classes will be sent to the bishop in time for the Synod’s consideration. □□□ Our Synodical Council had its most important meeting on December 2nd and 3rd. This was followed by the UCC committee on December 4th in Cleveland, Ohio. Our prayers will be with our Synodical leaders conscientiously working on recommendations to our next Annual Synodical Meeting regarding the most essential existential problems of our constituting congregations. Next May, our elected delegates will again enter into the “Valley of Decisions” - by no means for the first time - in our turbulent history. Let the Holy Spirit inspire, lead and guide those into whose loving care our congregations are entrusted! non The UCC Relations Special Committee will have its next meeting after the two days meeting of the Synodical Council on the 5th of March, 1997 in Ligonier, PA.
