CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 2 -AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA Happy New Year to the Readers of The Calvin Synod Herald - Amerikai Magyar Reformátusok Lapjai Meeting of the U.C.C. Review Committee At the last annual meeting of the Calvin Synod-UCC, a special committee was set up to investigate our relationship with the UCC. Thus, the “UCC Review Committee' was formed by the Conference Council to prepare a report for the next annual meeting. The committee met in Cleveland, Ohio on December 4th, 1996 and outlined a broad approach to the mandated request of the Synod by dividing various topics between three sub-groups in the committee. In order to produce a representative report, the committee requests the input of our churches. Please expand and detail your comments on the following questions: 1. ) Do you have any concerns about the relationship of the Calvin Synod to the United Church of Christ? 2. ) Do you have any concerns about the relationship of the local churches to the Calvin Synod? Responses need to be submitted in writing by February 28th, 1997, and addressed to the chairman of the committee: Rev. Louis Medgyesi 607 Plum Street Fairport Harbor, Ohio 44077 □□□ In this 96th year of publication, while we serve our congregations on this side of the ocean, we are GOING GLOBAL, as God’s command. Your prompt action in this special mission is urgently needed. God bless our own entire “Household of Faith” abundantly. Our Calvin Synod Herald is now jubilantly received in the motherland and sister-churches in the Carpathian Basin. We are - by the grace of God - fulfilling an historical mission! □□□ Our Fairfield, CT church observed their 70th Anniversary on October 13th. The Bishop preached at the Anniversary Worship Service. Dean Poznan is the Pastor of the Church. Mrs. Elizabeth Turrell was presented with a plaque in recognition of her many years of dedicated service to the Sunday School. A gala banquet was held at a local restaurant. □□□ □□□ The greatest problems of the Synod were discussed with prayerful recommendations going to the Synod’s Annual Meeting. Final formalization for the presentation will be made at the next meeting to be held in Ligonier, PA. on March 5, 1997. □□□ Our prayers will be with our Synodical leaders conscientiously working on recommendations to our next Annual Synodical Meeting regarding the most essential existential problems of our constituting congregations. Next May, our elected delegates will again enter into the “Valley of Decisions” - by no means for the first time - in our turbulent history. Let the Holy Spirit inspire, lead and guide those into whose loving care our congregations are entrusted! On December 8th, our Bridgeport, CT church observed the 50th Anniversary of the new Church. The Bishop, Synod Presbyter Dudás and Dean Kovács attended. □□□ We urge our consistories to mail their Administration quota for the year to the Synod treasurer, Mr. Wilburn Roby. □□□ Our Churches are collecting new and used shoes in good condition for children, ages 6-13, who belong to our sister churches in the Karpataija region in the Ukraine. Please be generous with your donations! □□□ The Hungarian Millecentennial Exhibition may be seen in the Museum of the Hungarian Foundation, Somerset Street, Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days and years of our life.
