CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 8 -REFOMÁTUSOK LAPJA um Hungary, History and Hope Magyar-Hon, Történelem, Remény Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: "To the glory that was Greece And the grandeur that was Rome." What about the glory and grandeur that was Hungary? Now so crippled and so small at the contemporary present. Hungary may be a country with fewer than 10 million, but it is a beautiful, literary, artistic and cultured one! How did the poet record the actual and historical "status-quo" of that glorious Age? "Oh, grand was the Hungarian nation at one time! Great was her power, great was her possession! Into Hungary's seas descended at that time The falling-stars of North, East, South in succession!" □ „Ó, nagy volt hajdan a Magyar! Nagy volt hatalma, birtoka! Magyar tenger vizébe huny le Észak, Kelet, Dél hulló csillaga!" lit Bit ild Caluín-Church by Endre Ady Our pastor is a clever, old wizard, Twenty years ago he was the same. Our church is a simple Calvin Church, No altar in it with fancy frame. The text is still Lord Jesus, Just as it was twenty years back: "The Lord's body was broken, The Lord's body was broken, And his precious blood was shed!" I roamed all over with vagabond zest: Travelled by rail, by boat, by all. But no church saw me long time ago In such prostrate mood as this, at all. How I wish I could not break out in laugh When the clock is two decades turned back: "The Lord's body was broken, The Lord's body was broken, And his precious blood was shed!" Faithful ones, bowed in honest awe, Hearkened around me in aisles Urgent Appeal to Our Readers As we commence the95th Year of our oldest paper, The Calvin Synod Herald, we are asking for our congregation's kind and continued support. And I myself, who just could not laugh, Was carried on unseen wings - all along. After twenty years of roaming wide and far, I humbly returned when the Amen was read: "The Lord's body was broken, The Lord's body was broken, And his precious blood was shed!"
