CALVIN SYNOD HERALD-4 -REFOMATÜSOK LAPJA Let us start our New Year with the Hungarian Lord's Prayer The Magyar lord's grayer BY EUGENE SZEDENITS Translated by Dr. Stephen Szabó OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN Let Your Love be our true leaven Do not remove Your eyes from us ever Though our lips blaspheme and hearts grieve forever Do not hold our faults against us Magyars paid sad price in abundance. Herewith HALLOWED BE THY NAME From cradle to grave at all times the same May we shed what's strange and walk by magyar creed Loyally profess what's divine indeed Faithfully honoring and counting the blessing Unceasingly gracing Your name everlasting. THY KINGDOM COME in answer to our hail Prostrate us magyars let brotherhood prevail In clamor of thanks clasping each other's hand At home and every faraway land To all magyar words let our ears listen As if by mother's lips unto us be given Above and here under THY WILL BE DONE Let bells ring out what God has done Magyar hearts be ruled by fair compassion May God find pleasure in His magyar children In Homeland and scattered all over Keep them in kinship with eternal order AND GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD Over our fields soft rain may be spread Hillsides be blessed by plenty of grape Flowers blossom wherever eyes gaze Let there be ample in fish and pheasant Children be born for Lord and peasant O Lord FORGIVE all OUR TRESPASSES AS WE FORGIVE WHO AGAINST US TRANSGRESSES Turn toward us Your holiest Face We suffered here more than any-else, any-place Embrace us in our painful destination Defend! Guard! this long-suffering nation AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION Fill our minds with peaceful inspiration Create comradeship among all mortals Grow us in number, soul, good and portals Make us brave and true among our kinsmen Save from faintheartedness in trouble and burden THINE IS THE KINGDOM, POWER AND GLORY Omnipotent Lord Maker of History In our need we deeply supplicate For dismembered Homeland at Your heavenly gate We cry out loud in our dark distress Give back our Homeland the whole and not less.
