Louis Medgyesy v________________________________ I was born to Lajos and Julia (Lukacs) Megyesi in Nyírbátor, Hungary, on October 26, 1946. My father was a Gendarme Sergeant (Csendőr Őrmester) stationed in the Zemplen + Szabolcs-Szatmar district in Satoraljaujhely and my mother was a secretary at the local police station in Nyirtabor during the Horthy regime. My sister, Maria Fish, was also born in Nyirtabor on March 30, 1950. She lives in Anderson, South Carolina. PostWWII conditions were difficultfor all concerned, particularly for those associated with the pre-war regime. My dad found odd jobs in order to provide for his family. In 1952 both my parents went to Budapest to secure employment at the Épület Ellem Gyár, XI Kerület, and found lodging next to the factory at a converted prison facility for all of us to live. I attended grammar school in the Kelenföld suburb of Budapest until the outbreak of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution on October 23. Within a month, on November 20, our family, with many others, boarded a train bound for Austria, and approximately 12 miles from the border, disembarked, and en-masse walked over the border at night. The fording of an ice-cold canal on the shoulders of my father, walking on a pontoon bridge, and lighting haystacks in Austria remained as vivid childhood memories for the price we paid for freedom. Everything we owned was left behind. We became refugees! This single experience helped shape and form my faith and trust in God. We arrived at New York harbor on the U.S.S. Eltinge on New Year's Eve 1956 and were taken to Camp Kilmer, N.J. My father's brother, Geza Medgyesi, took us to Carteret to start our lives anew in the United States. We became members in the Hungarian Reformed Church under Rev. A. Daroczy and then under Rev. Dr. A. Harsanyi, I was confirmed in 1961. It took approximately 5 years for me to have command of the English language. I graduated from Carteret High School in r------------------------------------------------n Rev. Louis Medgyesi Dean of Lakeside Classis 1965. Then graduated from Bethel College, McKenzie, Tennessee in 1969 with a B.A. Degree. This was followed by a 2 year enlistment in the U.S. Army from 1969- 1971.1 was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas with the Combat Engineers, MOS 72B20. Upon discharge, I was gainfully employed at GATX, Carteret, N.J.; then at Outerbridge Terminal in Perth Amboy, N.J.; and finally, until 1980, at Chevron U.S.A. (a.k.a. SOCAL). In 1973, I married Elizabeth Garasos from Tornyospalca, Hungary. We have three children. Louis Joseph, age 18 (born 3/28/75); Maryann Kathleen, age 17 (born 10/15/76); and Steven Peter, age I I (born 1/15/82). In 1980, I enrolled at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and received my Master of Divinity degree in 1983. The Hungarian Reformed Church (independent) in Perth Amboy, N.J. underwrote (paid) for most of my Seminary education, for which I am very thankful. During my studies, I also worked on 2 shifts at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison, N.J. The Hungarian Reformed Church in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, extended me a call in November, 1983 to be their pastor. I have been serving in that capacity ever since. In 1988, the Lakeside Classis delegates elected me as Dean. I have also served as the Treasurer for the Calvin Synod from August 1987 to May 1993, and have been elected as Auxiliary Bishop at the May meeting. I thank God for His love, grace, mercy and peace in every phase of my life and for the opportunity to be a useful instrument in His hands for proclaiming and defending His Word. A Declaration with an Everlasting Meaning The Declaration was pronounced by Lord Buckmaster in Great Britain's House of Lords, on the 17th day of November in the year 192 7. □ □□ "Peace, which by universal tradition is supposed to assume the aspect of a dove, descended upon Hungary in the form of a vulture and tore her limb from limb; tore her to pieces without the least regard to the economic interests of what remained, and left this unhappy country absolutely paralyzed and impotent in the face of ancient and determined foes!
