CALVIN SYNOD HERALD REFOMflTÜSOK LAPJA- 5 -Our Presbyters and Our Ministers Meet Annually in Ligonier The American Hungarian Reformed Presbyters' Association 1994 Annual Meeting, the 48th in succession, was held on Sept. 4th and 5th. □ Purpose of the Association: To Unite the Hungarian Reformed Presbyters of America in one organization in order to strengthen the feeling of fraternal unity; to face the common problems with a united front, striving to find solutions and plan united actions on the annual conferences, to aid the work of the Hungarian Reformed Congregations more effectively; in gen­eral - to endeavor to make the Hungarian Reformed Churches in America better and more efficient instruments of the spread­ing of the Kingdom of God on Earth. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Butosi was preach-When Christmas falls on Sunday Many families with small children often prefer to stay home Christmas morning to open gifts. Others may be away or departing for loved ones' homes. Some may not be interested, especially if they've attended Christ­mas Eve services with a candlelight Christmas Eve Service, in most Churches with Holy Communion. And those without families may prefer to attend community dinners ratherthan a family-oriented service. Since Sunday is our regular wor­ship day we might expect smaller at­tendance. Dr. László M. Medyesy goes to Hungary ing. His sermon topic was "What makes the Church, Church?" It is not the edifice but the people who make up the Congre­gation. He added that missions should be a concern for a Church. The Officers made their Annual Re­ports. The main speaker on the first day was Rev. Dr. Aladár Komjáthy of Pittsburgh. His topic was "What is Wrong With Us, Ministers?" American Hungarian ministry requires special training and the minister should learn from the wisdom of the world. The speaker for Monday morning was Rev. Daniel Szabó, Chief Elder of the Tiszaninnei Reformed Church District of Hungary, headquartered in Miskolc. He was also a missionary visiting Hungarian Reformed Congregations throughout the world. Briefly, he stated that every Elder and Church member is a servant of the Lord. Every Elder should assist the pastor by visiting families of the Congregation. After adjournment, the Presbyters joined the Ministerial Association for a divine worship service with Holy Com­munion at the Covenant Presbyterian Church. The election of new officers took place and outgoing presidentPaul J. Szaniszlo was given a standing ovation for his out­standing work in the past years. At the Ministers Association there was no election this year! o The well-known pastor of our Walling­ford (CT) church was invited to be pro­fessor at the Károlyi Gáspár University in Budapest. The position is jointly initi­ated by the University in Hungary and the Foreign Mission Board of the United Church of Christ. He will start his emi­nent assignment on January 1, 1995. God's speed to him in this new coop­erative mission enterprise!
