CALVIN SYNOD HERALD-4-REFOMÁTÜSOK LAPJA Our Synod, even before it changed the name "Magyar Synod" to Calvin Synod, has always done every step of approval of this proposed union for almost the entire length of a century. Our annual synod meetings repeatedly, and even recently, approved by unanimous vote, the union of the two legal bodies of Church; the merging of the two publications, C.S. Herald Ref. Lapja and Magyar Egyház, having a united Annual Synod Meeting. Our Paper published the so-called Declaration of the Union, signed by both bishops in the March-April Issue of 1992. Nothing more is left for us to do on this side of the fence. All legal actions will have to be done on the other side of the fence. Finally, on January 29 and 30, 1993, the "Bishop's Council" of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America (Független Egyház), dealt with the plan in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. We quote from their report in the Magyar Egyház. "The Bishop's Council dealt with the Plan of Union between the Calvin Synod of U.C.C. and the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, discussing its possibilities in view ofall former attempts lasting for almost a total century for uniting the stillexisting fractions of our Hungarian Reformed life. After prolonged discussions the Bishop 's Council brought the folio wing decision with a unanimous vote: 'The Bishop's Council agreed to declare its wish to have exploring contacts, which might bring into Union all Hungarian Reformed congregations in America. The Bishop appointed a special committee for negotiating approaches, consisting of Dean Alexander Forró, Dean István M. Török and Antal Beke, (Bishop and lay president ex-officio). Regarding the state of the Magyar Egyház (the official paper of the Church), István Török, the editor, gave a report. He said that the constituting congregations neglected their duties in supporting the Paper by not sending in their dues. The Paper is in the red by over $4,000 for printing expenses. Bishop Harsányi made a promise to advance a loan to the Paper to meet its obligations. "End of quote. Our Paper’s bolstering Letter To Our Readers! The July-August Issue of the new fiscal year has now reached you. We are now asking you to renew your congretional subscription and/or order a bulk of25,50 or 100 papers. Our Publication's 93rd year in existence calls us to join into the procession of our marching churches especially now when we finally entered into all comers of the former motherland crowned by the Carpathian Mountains. God loves us! Let us also profess our love to all, but first to our own Household of Faith. Now both Cleveland churches, East and West, receive 300 copies each! Another congregation that subscribes for all members is Columbus, Ohio. Hats off to these congregations (all from Ohio)! Exactly 1000 copies are mailed in the state of Ohio. Examples should be followed! After these, follow Springdale, PA and Flint, Mi on the list of total subscriptions. 50 copies are mailed in Ohio to Dayton; in Connecticut to Bridgeport and South Norwalk, 40 copies in Ohio to Lorain, Fairport and Toledo; in New York to New York City; in New Jersey to Passaic; and in Indiana to East Chicago. Let us continuously use our glorious past as a bridge to the approaching 21st century! □ Our Calvin Synod Herald is now GOING GLOBAL v________________________________ly In this 93rd year of publication, while we serve our congregations on this side of the ocean, we are now GOING GLOBAL, as God's command. Our Paper is now jubilantly received in the motherland and sister-chruches in the Carpathian Basin. We are - by the grace of God - fulfilling an historical mission. Where Does the "Eternal Plan" of Union between the Calvin Synod and the "Hungarian Reformed Church in America" Now Stand?
