CALVIN SYNOD HERALD- 2 -REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA CALVIN SYNOD NEWS Our 53rd Annual Synodical Meeting was held in Ligonier. The meeting days were May 21 to 23 in the Lord Ligonier Motel. The photo of Synod’s attending members is printed on our first page of this Issue. The Agenda was strictly followed. The Minutes are already at the printer’s hands. All our congregations will receive the copies soon. Bishop Zoltán D. Szűcs was reelected for another term. New Synodical Council’s picture is on page 3. The Bishop and his council was solemnly inducted at the Synod’s meeting by the Synod President Emeritus. The outgoing officers of Synodical council received gratitude from Synod. The real highlight of the 53rd Annual Meeting of our Magyar Calvin Synod was that LOVE, which Synod radiated toward our Synodical Publication “Reformátusok Lapja”, nine decades old. At the time of strict austerity, when everything in the Budget was cut, our Paper received the approval of last year’s two-thousand raise in the subsidy column again. What a wonderful act by the voting delegates of Synod. Thanks be to God! On May 22 Synod Banquet was held, where the Rev. Aaron Elek was honored on his retirement from an examplary active leadership in the life of our Synod. Ordination and installation certificates were presented. COMING EVENTS Youth Camp. Our Youth Camp will be in Laureville, Penn, on August 11-17. Program Committee of the Eastern Classis of our Synod planed the theme. The Rev. Lajos Medgyesiand Ms. Priscilla Hunyadi will be in charge again of the United Youth Conference. The two Bishops are responsible to ask The Federation and the William Penn Association for financial aid. * * * September 1, 2, 3 — Church Workers Conference and Ministerial meeting for Hungarian pastors in Ligonier, PA. Because of this, we request that each church send at least one adult advisor to accompany every five young people who will be attending Camp. In addition, we again have the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program, which has been successful over the past several years, for young people, ages 19-23. Any new staff members who would like to participate in this program, may do so. This program gives the participant certification as a counselor after successfully completing the two-year program. We would also like to inform you that the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America will pay $20 towards the camp fee for any young person who is a member of the Federation. Those attending Camp should notify their local Federation Branch Manager, who in turn will notify the Home Office. The $20 will be reimbursed directly to the individual by the Federation. For this reason, it is important that the entire registration fee be sent with the registration forms. Please reserve the week of August 11- 17 on your calendar so that you may join us. If you cannot come for the whole week, come for just a few days or a few hours, to be involved with our joint youth conference efforts. Pastors, we especially ask for your support. Your involvement in Camp will benefit the youth and enrich your ministry since there is nothing like our Camp experience. If you have any questions or need further clarification about the Camp, feel free to call or write to the Camp Directors, the Rev. Lajos Medgyesi, 607 Plum Street, Fairport Harbor, Ohio 44077, (216) 357-5203 or (216) 352-4936 or Miss Priscilla Hunyady, 50 North Washington Avenue, Colonia, New Jersey 07067, (908) 381-6413.
