CALVIN SYNOD HERALD — 7 — REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA AMERICA CELEBRATES AS THE CONSTITUTION TURNS 200 Americans are honoring the bicentennial of the United States Constitution this year. How “up to date” are you on its history? Just for fun, do you know... 1. Which of the original 13 states did not send delegates to the Constitutional Convention or sign the document? 2. When did the Constitutional Convention begin? When did it end? 3. What were the ages of the youngest and oldest delegates at the convention? 4. The Preamble was based in part on an Indian treaty. For which Indian tribe was the treaty written? 5. What did the Constitution replace and what was the purpose? 1. Rhode Island didn’t attend the convention or sign the Constitution because, among other things, they feared the federal government would take too much power from the states. 2. The Constitutional Convention began on May 25, 1787. It ended on September 17, 1787. 3. Jonathan Dayton (NJ) was 26 years old. Benjamin Franklin (PA) was 81. The average age of the delegates was 42. 4. The Iroquois Treaty of 1520 began “We, the people, to form a union, to establish peace, equity and order...” 5. The Constitution replaced the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution, in part, formed a national governing body with the power to create and enforce laws and treaties, to raise funds for running the government (taxes), to regulate trade and to defend itself. Clergy have been asked to testify in court in divorce cases involving couples they have counseled. Some states require clergy to reveal confidential information related to sexual or child abuse. “The intervention of the legal system has created conflict for ministers who want to adhere to a professional code of ethics which EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS RELATED TO THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST Academies The Massanutten Academy The Mercersburg Academy Woodstock, Virginia 22664 Mercersburg, Pennsylvania 17236 Beloit College Beloit, Wisconsin 53511 Carleton College Northfield. She feels confidential information must be reported in child abuse cases to protect the victim, but persons being counseled should first be encouraged to report and get help themselves. Pastoral counseling centers can provide information about state laws on the issue.kyp Colleges & Universities
