CALVIN SYNOD HERALD — 2 — REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA CALVIN SYNOD NEWS Before the Lord’s Table The Greek word for table means a four sided, simple board. This simple table holds the elements of bread and wine, reminding us of Christ’s broken body and of His outpoured blood on the cross. With true repentance that participation at the holy table becomes more than memory. The cup of wine is the cup of the New Covenant. The old one was a relationship with God and men based on the law. The New Covenant cost the life of Jesus to make this relationship based on the free grace of God’s love given to men. Does the table in your home remind you of that simple table, where confession is received and forgiveness is given? What do yo do at that table? A very brief prayer may be said — in a big hurry — without having a grateful moment of thanksgiving. Those around the table are united in spirit, or are they complaining, quarreling, being discontent? Or could it be a place where through thanks giving all those around the table receive strength for a new day, for a new life? Are you going to feel His presence in the days to come? (I. Cor. 10:21) The size of the Christmas Fund needs to be substantially increased since the GS XV. adopted a national supplementation program which applies to those whose total pension income is less then three quarters of the average salary in our churches.
