CALVIN SYNOD HERALD — 2 — REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA CALVIN SYNOD NEWS Elections — Rev. Andrew Czecze was elected pastor of the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church of Buffalo, N.Y. on June 23rd. He started to serve on July 1st. Rev. Bela Poznan was elected to the First Magyar Church of New York City on September 15th. He moved into the newly refurbished parsonage on October 22nd. • Anniversaries — The Hungarian Reformed Church of Fairport Harbor OH is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its founding on November 3rd. Congratulations. Dr. Zoltán Szűcs will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his ordination on November 17th in Lorain OH. The Conference Council expresses its congratulations to one of its members. • New Positions — Rev. Zoltán A. Kovács started in his new field of service as Assistant to the Administrator of the Bethlen Home of Ligonier, PA on August 15th. • Vacancies — Flint, Ml became vacant with the resignation of Rev. Zoltán Kovács as of August 15th. Cleveland, OH the First Hungarian Reformed Church is still vacant. The Pulpit Committee has interviewed candidates already. Perth Amboy, NJ with the resignation of Rev. Bela Poznan the John Calvin Magyar Reformed Church is vacant as of October 15th. Joseph Benedek at the end of October the two churches became vacant. At the present time the son of the Rev. Benedek, whose name is also Joseph serves as a substitute pastor. Springdale, PA. Strickler will have his installation on November 10th at the Manville Reformed Church. • Special Report — At the last Synod meeting former bishop Dr. John Butosi appointed a Special Committee to investigate the educational background of Stephan L. Nagy. The Committee’s report was received. Mr. Stephan L. Nagy lost his ministerial standing in the Calvin Synod for obtaining ordination with falsified documents. He can not solemnize marriages and administer sacraments. • Classis Meetings: The Central Classis met on October 6th in McKeesport, PA. The Eastern Classis had a joint meeting with the non-classis churches in Passaic, N J on September 29th. The Lake-side Classis has its autumn meeting on November 11th at the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church of Cleveland, Ohio. • Scout Chaplaincy — Our Synod shared in the support of the scout chaplaincy program. Making it possible with the Hungarian Reformed Church of America and the American Hungarian Reformed Federation to have Protestant serices at the August Scout Camp in Fillmore NY. Rev. Gabor Nitsch served as a chaplain. • Buenos Aires — is in urgent need of our financial help. The Mission Committee of the Hungarian Reformed Church Uniting recently mailed out information to our pastors. Please study the appeal and acts on it soon, and mail your reply to Dr. John Butosi. • Summer Youth Camp — This joint venture of our Synod and the HRCA reached a record attendance of 131 last August. We express our thanks to the dedicated staff for their work, and we thank the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America and the William Penn Association for their financial support. All expenses were covered. • Debrecen Kantus — The world famous choir of Debrecen will give concerts in the USA and Canada from March 20th to April 10th, 1986. For information please call Dr. John Butosi, coordinator at (203) 368-3658. • Morgantown — A tombstone was erected in memory of Rev. Arpad Bernath with the help of the Morgantown Fund. • Bishop Király had the privilege of consulting with the consistories of the Cleveland, OH, Hammond, IN, and Flint, Ml congregations. He also visited Dr. Desmond D. ParraghinNorridge, IL, Rev. Kalman K. Ludwig in Hammond, IN and Rev. Victor Orth in Lansing, IL. Synod Appeals — Among the several appeals the most urgent are the Transylvanian (Romania) and South American appeals. Please send your generous contributions to the Synod Treasurer. (Rev. Lay Ministry — The newest members of our lay ministry program are: Eugene Petrovich (Cleveland, First), Miss Irene Szabó (Passaic, NJ), and Tibor Nagy (Flint, MI). lllllltlllllllllMMIMlimilllllllllllMllllllimillllllllllllllllllllllllllMIIIIIUIIIIMHIIIIIIIIIIIt MA GDA SZA BO NOMINA TED BUDAPEST — After the office of the general curator in the Transtibiscan Church District of the Reformed Church in Hungary had become vacant through the death of General Curator Dr. István Gaál, the council of the church district held a meeting on the 6th of May when Bishop Dr. Tibor Bartha announced the decision taken within the legal competence of the presidium of the church district to nominate the novelist Magda Szabó general curator.
