CALVIN SYNOD HERALD — 4 — REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA REV. JOSEPH RASKY 1904-1985 Rev. Joseph Rasky was born in Hungary in 1904 and died January 9,1985 at the age of 80. Rev. Rasky served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with dedication and humility. Rev. Rasky came to the United States in 1912 and settled in Northampton, PA. In 1937 he graduated from the Bloomfield College and Seminary and was ordained in that same year. He served as a supply pastor with the Westmoore Presbyterian Church in Kingston, PA. In 1957 Rev. Rasky was installed as the pastor of the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church, in New Brunswick, N.J., and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1970. He then moved to Boynton Beach, Florida. His wife, Irene Berta Rasky died in 1982. Rev. Rasky resided at the Bethlen Home prior to his death. At the funeral service Rev. Bodnar stated: “In the time Rev. Rasky spent as our pastor he had the reputation of being a sensitive and a humble man of God. Not one to brag or ask others to take notice when he did a good deed, but rather a pastor who quietly and dependably went about doing his duties, caring for his people and doing his best to lead his flock in the direction of God’s will.” OTTAWA, ONTARIO The Hungarian Reformed Church of Ottawa, Canada has elected the Rev. Ernő Zugor as its pastor. He began his services at his new post January 1, 1985. CALVIN SYNOD HERALD REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 365 E. Woodrow Avenue P.O. PANORÁMA NEWS AROUND BETHLEN HOME Residents who live on the 1st floor probably have noticed the new aquarium in the North TV Room which was just purchased recently from the activity fund money from the 1984 bazaar. The residents enjoyed the aquarium so much that was bought last year and placed on second floor that 1 thought that would be a good investment to put one downstairs. Not all the residents are able to come up to the second floor to see the other aquarium. Anyone who is going to throw away those Christmas cards you received this year or last year save them for us for we can use them in craft projects. *** LIGONIER, PENNSYLVANIA Alexandra Miller, the daughter of Capt. Matthew Miller and his wife Edith Kovács was baptized in the little church of the Bethlen Home by the happy grandfather, Rev. Paul Kovács. About 50 people attended the event, which hardly ever happens in the old folk’s home. Capt. Miller is stationed at the Strategic Air Command at Omaha, NE. The family and relatives met in Ligonier for the baptism. *** FRATERNALISM PRACTICED IN THE BETHLEN HOME... The Bethlen Home wishes to express thanks for the wives of the Officers and Board of Directors of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, who gave numerous hours of their time during the Labor Day festivities, working in the sewing room for patients without families maintained in the Bethlen Home. Mrs. Margaret Bertalan; Mrs. Betty Vargo, who even took home work to sew at her home; Mrs. Margaret Abraham; Mrs. Helen Szuch; Mrs. Emma Aros; Mrs. Helen Modory; Mrs. Irene Csordás and Mrs. Irene Bakti were donating their free time for the benefit of these unfortunate people, and for the nursing home. May their kindness be “contagious” to others also, to show that fraternal love is guiding our steps in the Bethlen Home, and in the Hungarian Reformed Federation. *** YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO Thoughts in the 80th anniversary year of our church building — We are a downtown church. Some regard this as a handicap. We should look upon it as an asset. The unique steeple of our stone church building looks down on the busy street and seems to say to the people, “Remember God!” The two bells on Sunday mornings remind the people of the other world. The church belongs to locations where life is densest and human need is greatest. We, members of this church, should feel pleased and content that the doorstep of the church building is on the pavement; that against its walls beat and lap the tides of labor; that our hymns mingle with the rattle of cars, the groans of traffic, and the weekly siren of rushing ambulance; that the seats are within easy reach of men and women falling under heavy burdens. God grant that the Hungarian Presbyterian Church on the busy corner of the town may be increasingly this kind of a church. (The Open Door) *** RESEDA, CALIFORNIA On Palm Sunday, March 31st the Grace Hungarian Reformed Church of Reseda, CA will host a conference for the seven Los Angeles area Hungarian Protestant Churches.
