For the UCC National Youth Event Synod agreed to pay the expenses of one delegate. 4. In regard to Hungarian Reformed Church Uniting Synod heard the progress report, approved the Council’s actions, and voted to prepare a “Uniform Reformed Liturgical Book in English” allocating the necessary fund for 200 copies (75%). 5. The Insurance Program of U.C.C. Conferences was presented by its coordinator, Peter E. Keck. Synod voted: “Since this company offers the highest possible coverage at the lowest possible premium, each delegate should report at the next consistory meeting about this opportunity and respond at their earliest convenience by filling out the survey form and sending it to the Company, UCC Insurance Programs, 20 Woodside Ave., San Francisco, CA 94127 (415-753-0901). Then the Advisory Board will send proposal to the respective churches which would like to participate in the Synod Program.” It is understood that the cost could be about $4000 to the Synod, with a rebate as congregations join the program. 6. Concerning Clergy Housing Synod accepted the recommendation of the Committee on Health & Welfare that the present parsonage system which involves many of our churches, be replaced by a housing allowance option, thus allowing the ministers to build real estate equity during their lifetime of service. 7. Same Committee also recommended to open an IRA for ministers serving small churches, supplementing Social Security and pension. 8. With reservation, Synod voted for the “Amendments to the UCC Constitution & Bylaws on Ministry.” 9. Synod decided to “develop a 3 year goal and thereby provide financial support for the American Hungarian Foundation and its capital fund to establish the National Hungarian Heritage Center” at New Brunswick, NJ. 10. Synod reaffirmed its determination to fight against human rights violations, especially in regard to Hungarian minorities living in Romania and Czechoslovakia, giving support to CANAAC resolutions and Washington demonstrations. 11. Elections: Dr. Eva M. Fabian was recommended by Synod for election at HRFA Convention as our representative on the Board of Managers for the Bethlen Home. — On the Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home the following churches are authorized to have delegates: So. Norwalk, McKeesport, Cleveland West, Indiana Harbor (and the Rev. Z. Kovács until convention, and Dr. Fabian after convention). — In regard to the editor of the Calvin Synod Herald — Ref. Lapja, Synod authorized the Conference Council to act on behalf of the Synod once Rev. Paul Kantor is “on his feet.” — Revs. Aaron Elek and Francis Vitéz were reelected as delegates to General Synod. 12. The Budget of $76,100.00 was accepted for 1984 and $84,900.00 for 1985. 13. A Constitutional Amendment to Art. XI was proposed by 20 delegates. It reads: “Any minister in good standing of the Synod, who meets the above described requirements, may be elected to the Council, if he/she has had ten(10) years of service in the Holy Ministry of the Gospel. This will be voted on at the next Annual Meeting after due notice. (Art. XIII.) This is not all, but sufficient to use in consistory or other meetings. May God bless their faithful implementations!
