Cor. 4:1) as he faced hardship, spiritual blindness, apathy. His evangelistic reinforcement came from Christ’s judgment, love, power, ministry and fellowship (2. Cor. 5:9—6:1). By the mercy of God, the same resources are available for us as we are getting engaged in “Evangelism and Membership Growth”. Therefore, do not lose heart! Although three members of the Church Growth Committee could not attend the Ligonier Seminar on Sept. 7—8, about 20 of us encouraged one another in this endeavor under the leadership of the Revs. Alan Johnson (New York) and Paul Westcoat (Greensburg, PA). As you know the fall meetings of our classes will share experiences in regard to resource material and possible implementation. If you do not have the material, order it from “Church Leadeship Resources, 1400 N. Seventh St., St. Louis, MO 63106” for $12. If you have the material, have a committee to digest it and shape plan to use it! The minutes of our 1982 Synod meeting have been mailed. Pastors are to distribute them to elders and discuss recommendations in consistory meeting. The revised "Assessment Plan” (pp. 79—81) will soon be mailed to consistories for comments. A short pamphlet. “On Being a Hungarian Reformed Christian” will also reach you in the near future. As the American-Hungarian Ref. Presbyter’s Association has paid the expenses, each elder should receive a copy free of charge. (Distributor: P. Hunyadi, phone: 201-381-6413.) Synod Sunday is fast approaching. The date is Oct. 24 or 31 when our congregations are asked to use the special insert (soon to be mailed) for the familiarization of our Synod (mission, budget, support). Let us appreciate our gifts and privileges! Bethlen almanac material, typed double spaced and not more then two pages with two black and white pictures, is to be mailed to Bethlen Home before September 30, 1982. Making budget for 1983, let us remember Synod’s resolutions in regard to pastor's salary ($14,000 minimum), pension (14% by 1985), subscribing to the Calvin Synod Herald ($4.00 group, $6.00 individual), supporting Synod Appeals, etc. In Morgantown, W. Va. our church was dissolved officially on Sept. 8,1982. Bishop Butosi presided at the dissolution meeting which unanimously approved the recommendation of the trustees in regard to the use of real and personal property. Our people in Morgantown completed the journey they were called to. But the “Morgantown Fund” will continue to serve: in educating new pastors (50%), helping the Bethlen Home (25%), and assisting our Synod (25%)... In Indiana Harbor, IN. the congregation celebrates the 50th anniversary of their present edifice on Sept. 26, 1982. (Bishop preaching.) In New York City our 69th Street church celebrates the pastor, Rev. Julian Nagy’s ordination (40 years ago) and service in New York (10 years) on Oct. 3,1982. Dr. Butosi is the guest speaker. In Norwalk, CT the Bishop will present the Synod’s “Certificate of Appreciation” to the family of the late Andrew Kurimai on Oct. 3. at a congregational dinner. In Hammond, IN our Faith UCC commemorates the Diamond Anniversary in the month of October, highlighting on Oct. 17 when Bishop Butosi preaches on “The Hope of our Future” followed by a banquet. In Reseda, CA. the Grace Ref. Church (in dual standing with us) started an ambitious building program. Help is appreciated. Our youth camp reached a new record in attendance: 93 young people, 17 counselors, total: 110. The “spirit” was clean and positive, thanks to the speakers, leaders, and especially to the directors: Drs. Coralyn and László Medyesy and Rev. Louis Illés. The gifts of the William Penn Assoc, and Hung. Ref. Federation decreased our “deficit” to about $1,700. But this is also Synod Mission!... Diaspora news: The church property in Uruguay was sold in order to reinvest in a more suitable way... Our “Calvin Synod Herald" will carry articles from Rev. J. Apostol (Brazil celebrates 50th jubilee in October!), Imre Szabó (Argentina) and J. Dómján (Venezuela)... No Hung. Church will be built in Geneva; contributions are turned over to Claparede Fund (student aid)... “Ottawa ’82” is past: about 500 representatives of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches met on Aug. 17—27. Formally they suspended 2 South African Ref. denominations for their apartheid attitude, replaced Dr. McCord by Dr. Alan Buesak (South African black) as WARC President and elected UCC minister, A. C. Throckmorton as one of the vice-presidents, while decisions were reached to make WARC a more effective alliance. Informally the Hungarian delegates (and just as many visitors) had an opportunity to share joys and sorrows, and strengthen the Hungarian Reformed Ecumene. Dr. K. Toth published a Hungarian Ref. Church History, “The Church of the Glorius Lamb” for the occasion... Just briefly: The parsonage of Flint, MI was robbed in August while Rev. and Mrs. Z. Kovács were on vacation... Lorraine Butosi was operated on in September (pinched nerve); she is recuperating now at home... Steve Siakovits is studying now is Cleveland; his new address: 1630 Winchester, Lakewood, OH 44107... DO NOT FORGET: Synod Meeting is scheduled for May 2—5, 1983 in Ligonier, Pa. ON BEING A HUNGARIAN REFORMED CHRISTIAN During the Hungarian Reformed Week in Ligonier, Pennsylvania a very useful and important little booklet was released: “On Being a Hungarian Reformed Christian.” It deals with “our name, ” “our tradition,” “our confessions,” “our form of church government,” “our hymns, ” “our history” and describes the present situation of the Hungarian churches in North America. It was published by the American Hungarian Reformed Ministerial Association in cooperation with the American-Hungarian Reformed Presbyters’ Association and it was prepared by Imre Bertalan, Bishop Dr. John Bütösi, Andrew Hamza, Dean Dr. Andrew Harsányi and Dr. Aladár Komjáthy.
