PAÁL GYULA BÜCSUBANKETTJE 13 HÍREK ______________________________ 14 OFFICIAL COMMUNICATIONS The members of the Synodical Council met in the Landmark Inn of Woodbridge, NJ on February 24-25. A RETREAT will be held on the second day of the Synod meeting in Ligonier (April 27-29). After the lecturers present the main theme: SURVIVAL AND GROWTH, there will be group discussions. Devotions will be led by Elmer Charles, Rev. Zoltán Király and István Slakovits. On Tuesday evening at the BANQUET one of our former outstanding church leader will be honored. Shortly after the meeting started we received the sad news that one of our fellow pastors, the Rev. Dr. Arthur Ludwig passed away on February 24. Funeral services were held on February 28. Bishop Parragh and Deputy Bishop Butosi conducted the funeral services. VACANT CONGREGATIONS: Hammond, Ind., Homestad, Pa., Gary, Ind., Dayton, Ohio, Coatesville, Pa. and Morgantown, W.Va. The YOUTH CAMP will be held this year again at the Mennonite Church Center, Ligonier. Directors will be: Dr. L. Medyesy, Rev. Mrs. C. Medyesy and Rev. L. Illés. It is desirable that the director should send out together with the Invitation an encouraging letter to all members (500 invitations will be printed). The re-printed MINUTES should be mailed as soon as the secretary receives them according to the list sent to him by March 9th from the Bishop’s Office. TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENTS for the Synod delegates cannot be covered entirely from the assesment, therefore the difference should be allocated from other funds since an increase in travel assesments is not desirable. Council meetings should be held in the future for 3 days instead of the usual one and a half day period to save expenses. The Treasurer will receive from the Bishop’s office until March 13th the official number of church members from each congregation. The Invitation and AGENDA for the Synod meeting should be mailed from the Bishop’s Office at the beginning of MARCH in order to elect the synoddelegates in proper time. It is desirable that the same person should not be placed in three different committees. Responsible and conscientious work is expected from each and every committee. Rev. Zoltán Király, General Secretary Picture on front cover: Béla Gy. Szabó: Light and Cross, woodcut, 1976.
