8 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE If a child lives with criticism, He learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight. If a child lives with ridicule, He learns to be shy If a child lives with shame, He learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with tolerance, He learns to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement, He learns confidence. If a child lives with praise, He learns to appreciate. Ir a child lives with fairness, He learns justice. If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval, He learns to like himself. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, He learns to find love in the world. Dorothy Holte (Continued from page 2) VII. To the workshop presentation of "The Church in the Eighties from Our Point of View” discussion Group 1. voiced the opinion, that to bring the message of Jesus Christ to the world we live in, we must set good examples through church-supporting and Christian attitudes. This in turn requires a better awareness of the traditional Calvinist faith our church stands for. A re-study program for presbyters as conducted in the Passaic Church was cited as a good way to start a much needed adult re-education program. Admittedly, a congregation will pledge itself to raise $140,000 through all sorts of hard work much sooner, than it will pledge itself to serious and consistent study. Yet, such a program of study for as many of the church’s adults as possible would, by its very radical departure from previous attitudes, greatly strengthen the church. To the workshop presentation of ‘;The Church in the Eighties and Youth” Group 1 saw a greater need for parental firmness than what was described in the presentation. Much as the thought of sharing and communicating with youth was admired, Group 1 thought, that parental attitudes should radiate positive guidance and a readiness to enforce if need be. The summer youth camp with its strict rules and close supervision was cited as a very good example and proof that discipline that is just is appreciated by youth. Rev. Zoltán Király General Secretary
