6 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 11, 1979 Office of the White House Press Secretary Media Liaison HUNGARIAN AMERICAN NAMED CHAIRMAN OF COMMISSION President Carter has appointed Dr. John Kemeny, a Hungarian American who has been a pioneer in the field of mathematical models and computer program­ming, chairman of the President’s Commission on the Accident at Three Mile Island. The President has placed the highest priority on the Commission’s work, which will review the entire sequence of events at the nuclear facility in Harris­burg, Pa., and report its finding to him. The 12-member Commission’s task, according to an Executive Order signed by the President, also in­cludes an assessment of “how the public’s right to in­formation concerning the events at Three Mile Island was served and of the steps which should be taken dur­ing similar emergencies to provide the public with ac­curate, comprehensible and timely information.” The study also will include an evaluation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s licensing, inspec­tion, operation and enforcement procedures as ap­plied to Three Mile Island. * Kemeny’s appointment was announced personally by the President, who met with the new chairman at the White House. Dr. Kemeny is president of Dart­mouth College in Hanover, N.H. He is a native of Budapest, Hungary and came to this country in 1940 and began a distinguished career as a mathematician, computer science expert and philosopher. His early career included work as a researcher on the Los Ala­mos project and two years as a research assistant to Dr. Albert Einstein. He was a professor of mathematics and philosophy at Princeton and became professor of mathematics and philosophy at Dartmouth in 1954 and became the college president of Dartmouth in 1970. * THE POWER OF WORDS A careless word may kindle strife, A cruel word may wreck a life, A bitter word may hate instill; A brutal word may smite and kill. ADDRESS: First Presbyterian Church Camp, R 711 N, Ligonier, Pa. 15658. Phone: 412-238-6428. THEME: "HOW TO BE A YOUNG CHRISTIAN IN OUR MODERN WORLD?" WHAT TO BRING Flashlight, warm coat, or sweater, camp clothes heavy shoes, bathing suit, towels and soap. Rubber shoes and raincoat. The Bible is one essential. Two or three woolen blankets, sheets, pillow and pillow case. Sleeping bags may also be used. Beginning at 3:00 Sunday with registration, the camp extends to 9:30 the following Saturday. Please observe these times when making your traveling plans. Private property is brought at camper’s own risk. RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Only parents and invited guests will be con­sidered visitors. 2. Visitors must report to the camp director. 3. Car keys of campers must be given to the camp director for keeping. 4. Anyone wishing to leave the camp must ask permission of the director. 5. Taps will be at 10:00 with lights out at 11:00. No one is to be out of their cabins after lights out. 6. Boys may not go into girl’s area and girls may not go into boy’s area. 7. Alcohol or drugs are not permitted anywhere on the camp grounds. Anyone violating this rule will be sent home. There will be no exceptionsl 8. Smoking is not permitted at all. 9. Damage of any kind cannot and will not be tolerated. 10. The camp director along with the other pas­tor’s shall send home any young person found be­having in an Un-Christian manner. YOUTH CAMP My relationship with Him defines my attitude, my action, my work toward God and Church and Man. At Camp we will endeavor to see and understand ourselves in this Christ-Church-Man relationship and seek to work out a Christian purpose and goal for our lives. REGISTRATION This includes meals, lodging and insurance. The fee will be $65.00 to be paid by the campers and the rest to be underwritten by the Synod.
