Rev. Dr. John Butosi. Meetings were held in the Hungarian Reformed Church, Laurel and North Aves., Bridgeport, Hungarian Reformed Church of Wallingford, Hungarian Reformed Church of South Norwalk, and the Hungarian Reformed Church of Fairfield. The Opening Worship Service was held in Fairfield with the Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, general secretary, preaching. The Banquet was held in the Bessemer Center in Bridgeport. Honored at the Banquet were: Rev. Anthony Szabó of Los Angeles, introduced by Rev. Desmond Parragh; Dr. Joseph Piri Synod Presbyter, introduced by Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó; and Mr. Charles Toth, secretary of the Rossville, Staten Island Church, introduced by Dr. Vitéz. Dr. Piri was also elected as Synod Presbyter Emeritus of the Synod. Election of officers was held and the following were elected for the next two year term: Bishop, Rev. Desmond Parragh; Deputy Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. John Butosi; General Secretary, Rev. Zoltán Király; Treasurer, Rev. Nicholas Novak; Synod Presbyter, Mr. Elmer Charles, President of the William Penn Association. The 41st Synod Meeting was one of the most memorable in the life of the Synod. The address of the new Bishop is: Rt. Rev. Desmond D. Parragh 8260 W. Riley, Jr., Mayor PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, May 11, 1979 will mark the 200th anniversary of one of the most heroic chapters in our nation’s history, the breaking of the British siege around Charleston; and WHEREAS, the Calvary forces, under the command of Colonel Commandent Michael Kovats, de Fabricy of Hungary, marched over 1000 miles to reach and defend Charleston in the spirit of liberty and equality and WHEREAS, the Colonel Commandent Kovats Historical Society has chosen to honor this great military leader by issuing a freedom medal named for our City; and WHEREAS, this medal depicts a great moment of a dying hero and represents a timeless symbol of the dedicated horse soldier who risked his life 200 years ago for freedom and liberety. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph P. Riley, Jr, Mayor of Charleston, officially proclaim this medal as the official medal commemorating the ceremonies held in Charleston in May of 1979 in honor of Colonel Commandent Kovats de Fabricy of Hungary.
