FT. “BETHLEN HOME” IN HEART OF LIGONIER - TO BE SOLD BY HUNGARIAN FEDERATION!” — this is the capitalized caption of the advertisement the exclusive Glenn Cook Agency phrased the selling of OUR Bethlen Home. As I read the description, ‘LIGONIER ‘LANDMARK’ PROPERTY IS ONE OF THE TOWN’S MOST BEAUTIFUL STRUCTURES. EDUCATIONAL-CONFERENCE BUILDING AND MANAGER’S APARTMENT ARE OUTSTANDING,” I remember the story of a decadent bachelor who was tired of his own home which he inherited, and decided to sell it. Looking for a new home, he noticed in the local paper the description of a property which met his wildest dreams. So he called up the real estate agent: “I want to buy that property. It’s ideal for me!” “But, sir!” — was the reply — ‘this is your own home which you are so eager to sell!...’ The admitted purpose of this writing is to prove that we may be like this decadent bachelor if we are too eager to sell OUR Bethlen Home! THE REAL ESTATE VALUE OF THE BETHLEN HOME. The Glenn Cook Agency describes the land as a 180 ft. by 180 ft. area, two blocks from the town’s’ Diamond and about 200 ft. from the big municipal parking lot. There are three buildings on it. “(A) Main building of brick construction with slate roof was a three-story mansion built around 1920 and enlarged and improved over the years by the Federation. The first floor level includes the manager’s 5-room apartment; the administrative office suite, along with the dining room (1,890 sq. ft.) and the kitchen (676 sq. ft.) along with adequate storage rooms. The second floor has some (8) bedrooms and dormitories and 4 baths. (B) The educational building is a block and brick building totally detached. It features an auditorium that converts nicely for meetings, conferences and a chapel. (C) In addition there are two frame garage buildings. — All told there is in excess of 5,700 sq. ft. of first floor facility and approximately 4,000 sq. ft. on the second floor. The third floor is a large apartment area with much storage and in good condition. The Bethlen property is being offered for $275,000.00...” IT IS MORE THAN PROPERTY FOR US! Yes, the Bethlen Home is Ligonier’s “landmark” property! But for us it is more than real estate. It is OUR HOME! Not only in a sentimental sense, but (Continued on Page 7)
