Dr. John Butosi, Bishop 963 Laurel Avenue Bridgeport, Conn. 06604 203-368-6358 Official Communications “THE SUMMER IS GONE, the harvest is over, but we have not been saved” — this was the cry of the people in Jeremiah’s time. (Jer. 8:20) In a complete identification with the sorrows of his people, the prophet is also heartsick and grief-ridden. “Is there no balm in Gilead? Are there no doctors there?” — he asks, “Why, then, have my people not been healed?” ... May God help us not just lament, but also to find “the balm of Gilead” to the wounds of our people before our summer is over! THE CHILDREN’S HOME BUILDINGS of the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pa. has been the center of discussions in the last few months. The latest developments are as follows. On July 8, the Conference Council submitted a written MEMORANDUM (PROPOSAL) to the Board of Managers of the Bethlen Home which acted favorably on it. The same Board re-affirmed this favorable position on Sept. 5 after the Hungarian Ministerial Association of America endorsed the plan at its annual meeting. The Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home officially accepted the proposal at its meeting held in Ligonier on Sept. 6, and after debating it favorably recommended to the Board of Directors of the Hung. Ref. Federation of America to enter into negotiations with interested church bodies concerning the use of the buildings. This latter body unanimously passed a resolution on Sept. 8, 1978 “that within the framework of Resolution 19, the HRFA is willing to enter into negotiations on the proposition presented by Bishop John Butosi... Following the negotiations, the referendum vote of... the Calvin Synod .. . should be finalized by Oct. 31, 1978.” Thus THE CONFERENCE COUNCIL shall meet at the Landmark Inn, Woodbridge, N.J. on September 25, and conducts the negotiations with the Hung. Ref. Fed. of America (in co-operation with other church representatives) ON SEPT. 26. If the spirit of understanding prevails, the Conference Council will be able to submit a clear proposal to tiie delegates of the 40th Annual Meeting for voting by the end of October 1978. Again: PRAY!... IN THE LIGONIER CONFERENCES, our Synod was well represented at the ministerial meetings, but not on the Presbyter’s Assoc, which elected Edmund Vigh as president, with only a total of 7 churches represented. PASTORS’ RETREAT will be held on OCTOBER 16- 18 (Monday through Wednesday) in HOLIDAY INN OF CLEVELAND-SOUTH 4742 Brecksville Rd., Richfield, Ohio (Ohio Tpike. Exit 11). Further information will be mailed to all pastors, but we would like you to reserve these days now! (Cont. on page 6)
