Res.: 203-838-7378 Bus.: 203-866-7809 OFFICIAL COMMUNICATIONS THE 38th ANNUAL MEETING of our Synod was held on May 10-13 at Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D. C. The beautiful surroundings pleased the participants of more than 90 persons which included 26 pastor and 25 presbyter delegates. The agenda provided opportunities for a bus tour of the capital (including the Kossuth House), the Annual Synod Dinner with presentation of Bicentennial Citations to the Rt. Rev. Dr. S. M. Böszörményi and the Rev. E. Vasvary, and a most timely address of Msgr. G. Baroni on “Bicentennial and Ethnicity.” The most important decisions of the Synod include the following ones: 1. In regard to the Hungarian Reformed Church Uniting, Synod voted to accept the “Resolutions” of February 17, 1975 as printed in the 1975 Minutes, pp. 29-32. 2. In regard to the full-time Bishop, Synod appointed a Committee of Seven (E. Charles, Z. Király, J. Nemesnyik, V. Orth, D. Parragh, J. Piri, S. Szabó) to consider, among other possibilities, assistance to the Bishop’s Office in ministerial, financial, and clerical areas, and report back to the 1977 Meeting. 3. On the question of balancing the budget, Synod voted (a) to keep expenditures on the 1975 level, (b) to increase the per capita membership “dues” from $2.25 to $2.50, (c) to request from congregations true membership report and payments accordingly. 4. The minimum base salary for pastors was raised from $9,000.00 to $10,000.00 (as the average salary of UCC ministers in 1975 was $12,500). 5. In regard to Church and Ministry matters, application for student aid must be submitted to the UCC Office for Church Life and Leadership before JUNE 15, 1976. 6. In regard to erecting a monument of Michael Kovats in Lafayette Park of Washington, D. C., Synod voted to participate in the project. 7. On the question of the Galley Slaves Plaque, sponsored by the Hungarian Reformed Presbyter’s Association, Synod urges local churches to support it financially while artistically inclined members offer their help. (Dedication: Labor Day in Ligonier) 8. YOUTH CAMPS were heartily recommended: they will be held Aug. 8 to 14 at Camp Laurelwood (7 miles from Ligonier). The cost: $45.00.
