PRAYER OF A GALLEY SLAVE Prayer of György Szendrei, galley slave, pastor of the Reformed Church of Balogh, Gömör County. LORD, in the last struggle of my life, be merciful to me and take me unto Thyself. When I am unable to speak in my pain, and my face expresses my torment, please come to my help. When I am unable to hear anymore, and the beating of my heart ceases, let the Holy Spirit prepare me to receive Thy Word. When death closes my eyelids, let the beams of Eternal Light shine before me. I believe in Thee, the only hope of my soul and the leading torch on the way to salvation. Do not permit my faith to fail when all my strength is exhausted and comes to naught. Help me to die with the assurance that I was falsely accused; and help me to keep my hope in Thy forgiveness of my sins. When my soul is freed from the shekels of my body, receive it into Thy bosom; do not permit it to be lost. Evil judged me sinful and condemned me to death; and I feel that my sins have made Thee angry. O Thou Savior of men, protect me through the shed blood of Thy heart and cleanse me from the stains of my guilt with Thy Divine sufferings and with Thy burning wounds, that Thou hast undergone for my sins. The threefold sheddings of Thy blood heal my wounds — and death is the reward for our miserable wretchedness and ransom for our offenses against Thee. Thou art the Gate to salvation, in Thee do I hope; Thy life was proof of it. Call me when it pleases Thee. In my life and in my death, I belong to Thee. Come my Christ as soon as possible. Amen. HEARD Coretta Scott King speak for a federal full employment policy SUPPORTED her position by urging Congress to enact legislation that will aim at no more than 3% unemployment in two years; ENACTED a policy statement on evangelism that calls for greater emphasis on “naming the Name of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour” and encouraging church members to greater Christian discipleship. AGREED to bring to its October 1976 meeting a policy statement urging the outlawing of handguns. URGED the U.S. to extend formal recognition to the government of Angola
