6 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD coming arms. He is preparing me to be alone in His company. He is to be my everything for soon I will have to cross the narrow plank, where all will forsake me, where none can assist me. Where memories will be a burden, where He alone is my help. He alone will sustain me and in His strong arms carry me to the other side. I am beginning to feel as though I am going to a wondrous palace for a wonderful meeting. Behind me will close the door of a departed world, dear and painful tumult will be silenced. I will be shed of its memories, its crowns, its wounds, as an egret shaking water off its feathers as it rises on silvery wings. From inside will come inviting sounds of paeans; glorious light from a door ajar will fill my eyes and permeate my whole being. Whom am I going to meet when I cross the threshold with my stumbling steps? Now everything bespeaks His golden abode. His followers, His servants, the mansion’s retinue speak, even in silence, of Him; all the halls are filled with the glory of His name. I feel His nearness. His great, blessed love is with me. I press His promises to my heart and trust in Him, whom He sent for me, and who with His blood ensured my life, assured my calling. I am not alone! My Father is with me. My lips may be silent, but my weary soul now sings!! Ash Wednesday, 1973 Washington, D.C. Thank You Mr, Bero — Welcome Mr. Portiban! The Rev. Dr. Stephen Bessemer, pastor of our Bridgeport church announced, that Mr. Alex Bero, Jr., whose term as chief-elder ended, cannot accept a renomination, because he and his wife are going to Florida, at the beginning of April, where they bought a new home for themselves. Mr. Bero was a faithful and active member of the congregation for the last 46 years. He and his wife, were members of the Consistory and Mr. Bero, during the past 12 years, was Chief Elder. He was Vice President of the Eastern Classis, a member of many different committees and at the present time, is the first Chief Elder of the Eastern Classis, which will celebrate its 70th Anniversary this year. Mr. Bero, is highly respected and honored not only by the members of the congregation, but by the leaders of our Calvin Synod as well as the leaders of the churches in Bridgeport and in the neighboring cities and also in general by all Hungarians. We will certainly miss him and his wife very much. We thank God for all the things we received from Him, through Mr. and Mrs. Bero. They are loved and respected by all of us and we wish God’s richest blessings on their and their families lives and work. Mr. Bero was unanimously elected at the Congregational Meeting, as Honorary Chief Elder. The Congregational Meeting with a unanimous vote, elected Mr. Joseph Poruban, a faithful and hard working member of the church, as the new Chief Elder. Mr. Poruban is a member of the Consistory and the Churchman’s Brotherhood. He also was the Youth Director. The installation of the new officers and Consistory members was on March 17, 1974.
