LOUIS BECSKE We express our deep sorrow at the passing of Mrs. Louis Becske, wife of the Rev. Louis Becske, pastor of our Fairport Harbor, Ohio church. She died on December 25, 1973 and was buried on December 29, 1973. The funeral service was conducted by Deputy Bishop Aaron Elek and Dean Stephen Szabó. May God’s Holy Spirit console the bereaved husband and family. NEW PASTOR IN BUFFALO After 10 years as pastor of our Buffalo church, the Rev. Paul Kantor resigned his pastorate and is now engaged in secular work. Deputy Bishop Elek was named Administrator and conducted the Congregational meeting which called the Rev. Bela Pohoczky of Bethlehem, Pa. to be the new pastor. Rev. Pohoczky began his new duties on December 13, 1973. He is married and has one child. We ask God’s blessing on both the pastor and the church. ANNIVERSARIES September 23, 1973, Our Gary Grace Reformed church observed its 60th anniversary. The Rev. Mrs. Coralyn Medyesy, pastor and James Barath, Chief Elder. September 30, 1973, The Rev. Arthur Aurel Ludwig, pastor of our Indiana Harbor church in East Chicago, Indiana was honored on the occasion of his 15th anniversary as pastor of the church. October 28, 1973, Our Calvin United Church of Christ of Toledo, Ohio celebrated its 70th birthday. Our Synod was represented by Deputy-Bishop Elek and Dean Dr. Stephen Szaho. Our greetings to the congregation and pastor, the Rev. Andrew E. Harto. CHURCH DEDICATION The Magyar Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, Florida dedicated its new church on November 18, 1973. We congratulate both the congregation and its pastor, the Rev. Stephen E. Balogh. Our Synod is most happy that the pews, pulpit, communion table and other furnishings from our former Miami church is part of the new church. UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR The Rev. László M. Kovács was named Associate Professor at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana. He will be available as substitute pastor to the churches in the general area. His address is 105 E. Pine St., West Lafayette, Indiana 47906. BISHOP IN CLEVELAND Bishop Beretz, on September 23 and 24, met with the pastors of the Cleveland area and held meetings with Dean Stephen Szabó of our Lakeside Classis. The occasion for the meeting was a social event given by Mr. and Mrs. William Köteles at their home for all the pastors of Ohio. Also on this occasion, Mr. Köteles presented a check to the Synod designated for the Calvin Synod Herald. Our sincere thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Köteles for their thoughtfulness in providing an evening of fellowship for the pastors and their wives. FALL SYNOD MEETINGS HELD On October 22 and 23, 1973, the Central, Lake and Western Classes met in Cleveland, Ohio and on October 29 the Eastern Classis met in Perth Amboy, N.J. Both meetings were conducted by the Synodical Council members. Reports were made by the Synod Committee chairmen.
