2 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD CAN ONE BE A CHRISTIAN WITHOUT...? Can one be a Christian without attending public worship? Yes, it’s possible. It is something like: A Student who will not go to school. A Citizen who will not vote or pay taxes. A Soldier who will not be in an army. A Salesman with no customers. An Explorer with no base camp. A Seaman without a ship or crew. An Author without readers. A Businessman on a deserted island. A Tuba player without a band. A Parent without a family. A Politician without voters. A Football player without a team. A scientist who does not share his findings. A more important question: “Why would an individual not want to attend and worship if he (or she) is a Christian?” Either to receive or to share. From—The Plymouth Herald, Plymouth Congregational Church, Seattle, Wash.—in the Newsletter of St. John's, Nazareth, Pa. ^jf-a it L It can’t be bought at any price, Nor can it be forced on one; It can’t be stolen by a thief, Nor can it be overdone. WHAT WORDS MEAN In this mixed-up world, where it seems that some people think that LIFE LOVE HERO JOY ANGELS SAINTS MASTER TRUE REVEAL THE REAL THING SOMETHING TO TRUST SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN ... is a magazine ... is a cosmetic ... is a sandwich ... is a detergent . . . are a Baseball Team . . . are a Football Team ... is a credit card ... is a cigarette ... is a plastic wrap ... is a soft drink ... is a gasoline ... is a car And followers of Jesus are called freaks. We need the kind of dedicated Christians who can show the world what these words REALLY mean! It cannot flourish in the proud, Nor live within the Godless; It can’t be given as a gift, Without it life is worthless. It will survive all suffering, And can’t be killed by torture; It lives within the prison camps, With hope the inmates nuture. It can belong to rich and poor, The humble and remorseful; Blossoms in a forgiving heart, The loyal and the thoughtful. Faith is there in the soul that’s blest, By the everlasting God; It gently leads the life of man, An unseen divining rod. Margaret F.
