In the Middle Ages stories relating to St. Bridget were popular reading in Hungary. In the seventeenth century, relations between the two countries became very close as a consequence of Sweden being the ally of Protestant Transylvania. contacts assumed a direct character. At that time contacts assuned already a direct charter and led also to the establishment of kinship between Swedish and Hungarian families. On his return from Turkey, Charles XII traversed our country on horseback. Later on a beginning was made in both countries with mutual studies. Since the Hungarian war of liberation that broke out in 1848, the Swedish people has been showing a continuous interest in the Hungarian nation reciprocating the enthusiasm the Hungarians have always been feeling for them. The scientific, literary and artistic relations between the two peoples show a constant development and there exist strong links between them in the social field as well. Everybody in Hungary recalls with emotion the humanitarian action undertaken by Sweden in 1944. Au cours du moyen-äge on lit, chez nous, l'histoire de Ste Brigitte. De plus étroites relations s'établirent encore, au XVII siécle, lorsque la Suéde se trouve l'alliée des protestants de Transylvanie. Des liens de famille se formerent aussi par suite de ces relations directes. Charles XII, retour de Turquie, traversa ä cheval notre pays. Puis les 2 pays commencérent ä écrire l'un de l'autre ; c'est ainsi qu'au moment de la guerre de l'Indépendance (1848) les Suédois montrérent un vif intérét pour les événements qui se passaient en Hongrie nous rendant, par lä, l'admiration que nous avons toujours eue pour eux. Nos relations concernant les sciences, la Iittérature, les arts se développent. de plus en plus ainsi que nos relations sociales. C'est avec une profonde emotion que nous pensons aux secours que nous apporta la Suéde en 44. Nous ne pouvons de mérne ouhliér que ce sont les Suédois qui, les premiers, ont táché d'adoucir la misére, dans notre pays, consequences d'une guerre perdue.
