members are under continuing doctor’s care. I think it is always good to remember that even these difficulties are blessings from God. Had we been bom 30 years earlier or on a different continent, we would not be facing these difficulties with our health because we would have succumbed to these, or other much more common illnesses, long ago. The opportunity to defeat illness is a blessing which even in this country only our generation has been given, and we should be thankful for these difficulties One of the wonderful things about our congregation is that there are quite a few members who take personal responsibility to go “above and beyond” their responsibility in the church. Our Chief Elder, Maggie Bajzatt, who has faced a myriad of illnesses personally and in her home, but never allowed those to keep her from her dedication to the church. Steve Visnyai, who has done a yeoman’s job with the finances and record keeping of the church. Our other Consistory members are also dedicated to the work of the Church. Sylvia McClelland, the Secretary of the Consistory, never misses a meeting. Ernie and Betty Salas have a one-half hour drive on Consistory evenings, and their dedication is much appreciated. Larry and Sylvia McClelland, who have been our “janitors” very often during the winter months, took care of the storm windows this year, and put up the Christmas decoration in our Sanctuary, in addition to Sylvia’s regular care of the bulletin board, besides organizing the sausage orders and preparing the kitchen for the sausage-making project. Louis and Helen Gyure and George and Ann Borza, who together have repeatedly accepted the unenviable task of cleaning the garlic for our sausage making. Anna Sakai’s contribution of the daily devotional guides is much appreciated. It is something many of us use on a daily basis as a guide to remind us of the opportunities the Lord gives us. And this year we welcomed members from the Indiana Harbor Congregation: Margaret Augustine, Zora Ludwig, Barbara Toth, Mary Ann Snyder, and Margaret Waupsh. In addition, new members affiliating with our congregation in the past months are Waldemar Hutny, Arlene Kubacki and Linda (Toth) Spurlock. We welcome the love and enthusiasm of our new friends! 148
