PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Pastor: Ilona M. Komjáthy Chief Elder: Frances Matthews In its gathering each Sunday, the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh has preserved its historic response to God’s call to worship for over one hundred eleven years. It is this gathering for worship structured by our Reformed tradition which continues to form the very life of our community of faith. In our time-honored liturgy of worship both the Hungarian and English languages continue to find expression. The following summary of the past year’s events of the church are therefore but a kaleidoscopic description of the ways in which the principle influence of our weekly worship overflows and shapes our congregation’s activities to remain faithful to the mission of the church. The Word of God was regularly preached and the Sacraments were faithfully served. Pastoral care was extended to all those who remain, the faithful remnant, as well as those whom God has chosen to be placed in the congregation’s care. By extension, the sick and elderly were visited on a regular basis and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper was carried to all those who, because of illness, so requested it. In obedience to the commandment of Jesus Christ to make disciples in all the world until He comes again, we attended to the Christian nurturing of our baptized children. Through the work of our faithful Sunday School teachers, Cindy Toth and Patricia McClean, our children were taught systemically the tenets of the faith. Our annual Christmas Program, Vacation Bible School, the Youth Camp of the Calvin Synod and our annual Youth Service completed this year’s work of Christian Education. Confirmation. 112
