ROEBLING, NEW JERSEY Roebling Hungarian Reformed Church Roebling, New Jersey Supply Pastor: Leslie E. Martin Chief Elder: Allan Birkholz On June 4, 2000, our church joined in celebration with the Trenton Hungarian Reformed Church and the Staten Island Hungarian Reformed Church in Trenton, New Jersey for the Service of Ordination of our Pastor, the Reverend Leslie E. Martin. Our Ladies Guild and the Staten Island Hungarian Reformed Church together presented Rev. Martin with his new robe (Palást in Hungarian) which was ordered and custom made in Hungary. We thank God for calling another humble servant to work in the service of the Lord, and for bringing him to our congregation. Our church life continues to go well. Sunday services are well attended by our small congregation. On Monday mornings in October, November and December, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, our ladies have organized noodle making activities. We produce the best csiga and home-made egg noodles in Burlington county! Some men also come and help out. It is more than a noodle factory, it is fun social time in which news, stories and jokes are shared. Even our minister attends and helps make csiga! In December, the men gather for our annual making of kolbász. Some women also come and help out. It is delicious and the recipe is kept top secret. Three different people do part of the recipe. In that way, no one person knows the whole recipe. Watch out James Bond, we can do top secret work too! Our ministry continues to reach out to others in our community. We have made supporting contributions this year to a Christian church in India, to the Hungarian Protestant Ball, to a local Christian youth organization and to the Hungarian Reformed Church of Staten Island for their Emergency Construction Fund. Rev. Martin coordinated the collection of clothing, housewares and food for a family on our street in Roebling whose house burned. One member of the family perished in the fire. We keep them in our prayers. As we begin this new season, we ask God’s Blessings upon our Hungarian Reformed community and all of the Hungarian Reformed Churches around the world. Rev. Leslie E. Martin, Supply Pastor 103
