Bethlen Almanac 1999 (Ligonier)

The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America

We were honored to have among us Secretary Endre Csornán and his wife Arlene from the Home Office in Washington, D. C. and their family from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Also present was Jay Schenk, Sales Marketing Director of the Catholic Knights of America from St. Louis, Missouri. The traditional Hungarian fare such as pecsenye, langos and bográcsgulyás was offered in addition to hot dogs, hamburgers, com on the cob, watermelon, draft beer and draft birch beer. Hungarian homemade pastries, coffee, tea and our famous cornucopia of Hungarian salami and cheese, tepertő, breads and platters of chilled fresh fruit were served during the afternoon. The instrumental trio “Our Gang” played their usual crowd pleasing Hungarian and American tunes. Under the searing heat in full dress, the ever popular Csurdongolo Dance Group from New Brunswick put on a truly brilliant performance. Needless to say, their electrifying show was received with much exuberance. Free pony rides and the “back by demand” Animal Petting Farm proved to be very popular with our young children and their parents. To further captivate the interest of the children, Laura Melanson followed up last year’s success with an expanded craft table. Face painting, hair braiding, making beaded necklaces and other crafts kept the 25-30 children engaged for many hours. The dedicated work of our staff and the presence of our loyal friends under very exhausting circumstances gives testimony to our desire to further our culture and perpetuate our Hungarian Heritage. Michael Pauli, Jr., Director, General Chairman The hospitality table with workers in the background. 18
