WHITING, INDIANA Hungarian Reformed Church Whiting, Indiana Pastor: Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig Chief Elder: Magdalene Bajzatt Our congregation celebrated its 80th Anniversary this past year, and chose to honor our pastor, The Rev. Koloman Karl Ludwig, for his twenty-five years of service among us. Eighty years in Whiting represents the dedication of our fathers, for many of us our grandfathers, who came and established a congregation to worship the Lord God who led them here so far away from their land. Most of our members are from the region now in Slovakia, coming from towns and cities and villages close to each other, some of those in the modern-day Ukraine. But we found a home here just outside Chicago, and the Lord blessed us and allowed us to prosper. Many of those who grew up in this city had the opportunity to attend college and leave the area, and our Anniversary celebration was the opportunity for a number of them to come home again. Like many “Hungarian Reformed” congregations, our congregation is also populated by a number of Slovak members, who in our case chose to belong to the “Hungarian Reformed” church rather than to a local Slovak congregation which was not Reformed. And we have been blessed by their dedication and presence, as they are part of the “we” of our congregation. Our Anniversary celebration was very successful, and unfortunately we had to turn away a number of persons because of the size of our church hall. The celebration also honored Rev. Ludwig’s service, and we look forward to working together with him, as the Lord leads us into a new Century. Rev. Koloman K. Ludwig, Pastor Magdalene Bajzatt, Chief Elder 122
