WALLINGFORD, CT Pastor: Dr. Richard C. Diehl Chief Elder: Mary Carvalho The Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ Wallingford, Connecticut The following is a review of our church programs: General Highlights • We had a concerted effort to structure an outreach program. • We honored our Calvin Synod dues, and contributed $ 350 to the U.C.C Board of Missions in support of Rev. Laslo Medyesy’s ministry to Hungary. • We contributed to Gideons International in their work of supplying Bibles. • We contributed to One Great Hour of Sharing. • Several persons were given financial help and assistance during illness. There were other impressive church programs held in 1996 that brought the church together in fellowship, education and worship: • We held an Ash Wednesday supper and Lenten Devotional. • We kept the vigil of Maundy Thursday by holding a Tenebrae service. • On Good Friday our church was open for meditations led by our pastor. • An early Sunrise Service was held on Easter followed by a breakfast. • On Easter Sunday we had special music with Holy Communion. • Six Bible study sessions were provided during Lent. • We held a well attended retreat in December at Killam’s Point for families. • In September a recognition service was held for our pastor Rev. Diehl. • In December seven new members joined our church fellowship. • In 1996 new by-laws were adopted by our church. Financially, it was a remarkably productive year: • In 1996 a new roof was put on the parsonage. 69
