Our worship services are held every Sunday at 11 a.m., followed by Bible Study for adults at 12.30 p.m. Holy Communion is on every 1st Sunday of the month, followed by a congregational luncheon, game time for children, and the Hungarian film club. Occasionally, we also have Sunday School for children. Since the past minister, Reverend Kereskényi, had to return to Hungary after his two-year assignment, I was elected new pastor on September 1, 1997. Together with my wife, Gabriella Kálvin, who was a teacher of English/French languages and literature in Hungary, we made a commitment to strengthen the membership and to tend the spiritual needs of the congregation. We confess together: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15) and are led by the truth of God’s Word: “We too will serve the Lord, because he is our God” (Joshua 24:18), and above all we encourage everyone around us to understand: “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10). In our efforts to help one another, we made the Kossuth Hall available for programs; we try to sow the seeds of volunteership and generosity, seeking the great veracity of reformation: “Ecclesia semper reformanda,” that is to say, the Church must be renewed at all times. In this way, we try to get closer to Our Redeemer Lord, we are zealous to approach the early Christians’ faith whereas in those days of the Lord “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had” 61 '
