ROEBLING, NJ Pastor: Edwin Stern Our church officers for the year were installed at our February 19 worship service. They are co-chief elders Allan Birkholz and Bert Somogyi, vice chief elder Elmer Soltész, secretary Georgiana Harkel, and treasurer Joseph B. Varga. Our Women’s Guild officers: president Irene Szabó, vice president Jean Somogyi, secretary Elizabeth Soltész, and treasurer Sandi Todash. An automatic bell ringer was installed in our church in February. The project was sponsored by the Women’s Guild, under the leadership of Irene Szabó. Our church hosted the Estern Classis meeting on March 5. Our ladies continue to make money with their noodlemaking. They were very successful with the project in the spring, and are doing it again this fall. Seven of our members attended the Church Women United meeting in New Brunswick on May 7. The Church Council and the Women’s Guild donated $500 to the Salvation Army in Oklahoma City in response to the disaster. 24 members shared the fellowship at our summer brunch at the Columbus Inn on June 11. The Cherie Varga award, given annually to a graduating senior at Florence High School, went this year to Colleen Riley of Florence. The church undertook extensive repairs to the exterior of the parsonage in August. Improvements included new rain gutters, painting of roof and exterior, covering exposed wood and installation of a new front door. Our Women’s Guild has sponsored a chartered bus trip to Lancaster, Pa., to see a performance of “Noah” at the Sight & Sound Thetaer on October 18. We are very proud of the achievements of one of our younger members, Megan Scott. Megan, a sophomore at Florence High School, has won a number of prizes for essays and art work. Last spring, one of her designs was selected, from 15,000 submitted, for publication in “LuAnn’s Fashion Show”, part of a nationally syndicated newspaper comic strip. 257
