garian Independence Day, in Bethlehem, with Pastor Hári being invited to give the Invocation and Opening Prayer. This August, we had a Family Worship and Hungarian Picnic, lasting all day, in the Church Yard. The “Kitchen crew” made cabbage, apple and chesse strudel, as well as dobos, diós, and poppy seed tortes. We had a great day of fellowship and food — lots of it — pecsenye, töltött káposzta, gulyás leves, szalonna sütés and much more. We have been attempting to hold on to our traditions and heritage. Although at times, it seems like a lot of work, it is always well worth it, for once you lose your heritage and traditions, it is always difficult to recover them. As the Fall Season progressess, we look forward to our Annual Bazaar, a November Hungarian Style Roast Chicken Dinner, Reformation and Thanksgiving, and, of course, the Christmas Season. We pray that our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, will continue to bless all of us in our work and ministry together. CARTERET, NJ Lelkész: Tóth Péter Hungarian Reformed Church 175 Pershing Avenue, Carteret, NJ 07008 About 1995: The year started with renovations. After reroofing the parsonage we had to repair all the bathrooms as well. The parsonage is preserved; however, some more changes are needed in the kitchen and the garage. In the Bethlen Hall we had no regular custodian for most of the year. After the resignation of Andres we had Joseph Timari Jr. and Rev. Michael Orosz helping us at the needs of this building. Thanks to the two helpers. Mrs. Ann Masters is the new caretaker of the Bethlen Hall. Our place of worship is well maintained, however it needs much better attendance than in last year. It will be the task of our faithful to reach out having membership drives. Our Church Council completed a lot in 1995 taking care of our finances. However we have to realize that being a member of our Council requires more than have been accomplished in 1995. o4c
