Bethlen Évkönyv, 1991-1992 (Ligonier)

Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház

Fortunately, there are bright areas of our church life, too. Our congregational meeting elected an acting assistant elder for the year 1992. He will be able, job schedule permitting, to fulfill his duties. Treasurer’s, secretary’s duties will be still attended to by the Pastor’s office. Our church council lost one good member, but gained two from the younger generation. In the field of fund-raising (a part of stewardship) our Women’s Club has decided to bake Christmas rolls in 1991, again. Members of the Club and the church, who have withdrawn from other activities, joined in to participate in this major enterprise. The same is true in other fields of church functions. The secretary’s and treasurer’s duties are shared by volunteers, worship service liturgies, and other, lay activities, are done jointly, also. We are gratefully reporting that young and old are participating in the changing of the hymn boards, paraments, preparing bulletins, official letters, cleaning up after dinners, etc. We mention no names here, lest we would inadvertently leave out someone, or mention others, who would rather remain anonymous. They, God and in some cases we know, who they are. Other, community activities, such as the Hungarian Reformed Radio Program, community worship services, etc. were continued. Again, we have left our Youth Fellowship for last, to close our report on 1991 and to share our hopes for 1992. Frank Demes accepted the Youth Advisor’s position, and we hope that our youth will under his leadership, again, become active. The plans for a trip to Hungary may be postponed in time, but with other activities it will be carefully considered and it will be hopefully completed. With God’s assured and promised help we look forward to the year 1992 and hope that our plans meet His approval. We are closing this report, as we do every year, and in our radio broadcasts every time, with John Calvin’s famous statement and motto: Soli Deo Gloria! To God alone be glory! 175
