Important experiences for our congregation were the historic visits of Bishop Kalman Csiha from Kolozsvár and Bishop Lorand Hegedűs from Budapest. Through their presence and the Christian worship and fellowship in which we shared, our ties to the Reformed Churches of Transylvania and Hungary were strengthened. Our relationship to the mother church were further strengthened when in June our church sponsored a trip to Hungary which included participation in the Second World Gathering of Hungarian Reformed Christians. Eighteen people traveled together, including official delegates to the World Gathering: Edmund Vig, Chief Elder; Ethel Demeter, Ass’t. Chief Elder; and the Rev. Bertalan. Anniversary highlights included monthly recognition of our various church organizations and their leaders, the publishing of a commemorative album and pictorial directory, the completion of several important capital improvement projects, an anniversary worship service and dinner, and the establishing of five ministry areas for future growth and development. These areas include, worship, evangelism, outreach within the congregation, support groups and spiritual gifts. On the weekly level, the life and work of our congregation continues in earnest. The worship of God is our highest priority. Each Sunday morning we have strong congregations during both in English and Hungarian worship hours. The development of our Christian Education program continues under the direction of Anna Souto. On Sunday mornings, religious education is offered for all people ages 2 to adult. The Cradle Roll provides Christian guidance for parents of newly baptized infants. In addition, we offer an annual two week summer Vacation Bible School, an annual marriage enrichment series, family nights, topical discussions, retreats and service projects. Our “Care Company”—a Sunday School class of high school students—spent a week in Tennessee last summer working in a day camp with children from Appalachia.
