United Church of Christ

We have seen the trend. Many sister churches of Hungarian origin have closed and most of the remainders are declining, as well. After prayer, and careful analysis we set our goals: Our Christian duty comes first (Mt 6:33): “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ” Our second priority is fellowship, the love of our neighbors, our brethren, even our enemies as Jesus commanded us (Mt 5:46): “If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?" The third most important goal is our heritage, whether it’s Hungarian, Czech, German, Italian or Dutch we have one thing in common: The traditions and teachings of Jean Calvin. Teaching and learning have become essential at Calvin Reformed Church in Lynwood. Sunday mornings and evenings we have heard systematic studies on the principal issues of Calvinist theology. Young, or elderly, everybody was challenged to re-examine his or her faith and commitment to Christ’s Church and it’s work. We rediscovered (if there is such thing) our foundations. Three Bible study groups are gathering every week in the Pastor’s study to sit at the feet of Jesus. Each session lasts more than two hours. On Sundays we read in unison from our new pew Bibles, the New International Version. We worship three times on Sunday in our beautiful sanctuary bathing in the blue light of the new stained glass windows, on newly padded seats with rejuvenated spirit. Our Calvin Christian Choir, the Youth Choir, and several members who volunteer to provide special music enchance the inspiring performance of our Minister of Music, Steven Toth. We are grateful to God and we hope to grow even more with the help of the Holy Spirit. 142
