March 19, 1900 they decided to build a church. In April 1903 they became independent and joined the Reformed Church in the U.S. A location was purchased in Garfield but they did not start to build the church. At the end of April, Elmer Kuthy was elected their pastor who arrived from Hungary on November 1, 1903. On January 15, 1903, with financial help from Hungary, the cornerston of the church was dedicated. The church was dedicated on May 7 and the following year a bell was dedicated. In 1910 an organ was secured and in 1911 the neighboring house was purchased. One of the buildings burned down in 1927 and in its place a four family apartment house was built. Another house was also secured as a location for a new educational building. The church was remodelled in 1932, a new bell-tower was built along with a balcony in the church. In 1939 the church was one of the founding congregations of the Magyar Synod. English services were introduced in 1948. On June 16,1957, the building of the Calvin Hall was begun and was dedicated on September 27, 1959. In 1968 the parsonage and in 1969 the church was renovated. From the congregation eight persons have become ministers. The seating capacity is 450. Total affiliation is 180, the number of members in good and regular standing is 112. Former ministers: Elmer Kuthy 1903-1909; Leslie Thegze 1909-1931; Joseph Kecskeméthy 1931-1938; Victor Rácz 1938- 1954; Imre Bertalan 1954-1963; Dr. Aladár Komjáthy 1963-1968; Joseph Kecskeméthy 1968-1973. Egyházunk népének vagy egy harmada tevékenyen vett részt az egyház életében. Az év folyamán megtartottuk istentiszteleteinket. Volt 48 angol és 7 összevont, összesen 55 istentiszteleti szolgálat. Az angol szolgálaton részt vett 1425, az összevont istentiszteleten 217, összesen 1642 személy. Legnépesebb gyülekezetünk húsvétkor volt, 64 személy részvételével. Úrvacsorát vett 7 alkalommal 271 személy, otthon vagy kórházban 11-en, összesen 283-an. 113
