Bethlen Naptár, 1987 (Ligonier)
Kálvin Egyházkerület
192 BETHLEN NAPTAR front doors for the church were installed, a new commercial grade 49 c.f. refrigerator was purchased to accomodate food projects, a new 32K typewriter was purchased, and renovation done on the parsonage. For an aging congregation in the middle of an economically depressed area these purchases involved no small sacrifice. Yet for all the structural improvements made the numerical strength of the congregation is unchanged. Few new people seek to make a long-term commitment to the Lord in our church. While spiritual life is sustained via the regular worship services, only a handful avail themselves to the Adult Bible Study program held on Monday nights which adds an extra dimension to the faith experience. Perhaps as a sign of traditional practices on the wane, in losing both the meaning and significance of ancestral roots, our Lórántffy Ladies Aid Society disbanded for a lack of members. Founded on April 23,1922, it was a long-standing pillar in the life and fellowship of the Fairport church. With its membership in their 70’s and 80’s they could not go on functioning effectively. We wish God’s blessing upon them all. On a brighter side; for the first time in the history of the church a woman chief-elder, Mrs. Bela Kish, was duly elected. She is a hard worker who heads up the presidency of our Mary Martha Guild and the Local VFW as well. She is representative of other non-Hungarian members who are starting to comprise a larger segment of our churches. Our Sunday School is also a bright spot in the church’s life; again we are back to 27 children with a great portion in the lower grades. Their presence is a cause for hope to the survival of our churches and the dedication of its members to its mission and work. While we appreciate all our teachers giving of themselves to Christian Education, special mention must be made of Ms. Peggy Knesbeck for her organizational abilities and of Mrs. Bettylou Lesiacsek who is serving her last year of many as a dedicated Sunday School teacher. We thank God for them all. TOLEDO, OH Helyettes lelkész: Dr. Hosman Glenn Világi igehirdető, beteglátogató: A.
