198 BETHLEN NAPTÁR SOUTH RIVER, NJ Lelkipásztor: Daniel James Meeter Tiszteletbeli örökös lelkipásztor: Varga Emil. Chief Elder and Vice-President: Charles Brilla. “If God be for us, who can be against us?” asks the emblem of the Hungarian Reformed Church. God preserves his people and saves them from their enemies. We, heirs of Calvin, all know that the enemy, God most often has to save us from, is ourselves, even when we think we are being religious. This year we celebrate our Eightieth Anniversary, eight decades of God preserving his people, and our history shows how often we have been our own worst enemies... like every church. As with Jacob the patriarch, God has to wrestle with us in order to bless us. We Calvinists are not honest if our anniversaries do not include confession of as many years of sinfulness as years of accomplishment, if we do not end up saying in humility and adoration, “To God only be the glory.” We celebrate our Anniversary as the Almanac goes to press, so wepostpone that report for a year. But the preparatory work has been a wonderful time of fellowship and commitment. We have chosen as our theme our two roosters: the old kakas, handmade by Benjamin Bencze in 1923, that fell off our steeple fifteen years ago, and the new gold one that has replaced it. We have been known for sixty years in town as “The Rooster Church.” Church member and renowned artist Joseph Csatari has given us a new logo South River, The Consistory
