1984 125 *GARY, IN Lelkipásztor: Takács Zsolt Chief Elder: Jim Kovecsi. Beset by the problems common to all urban churches, the Gary Church faced loss of membership caused by the movement of young people to the suburbs, intermarriage with other faiths, and the consistant decline of our Hungarian membership in the last ten years. However, we continue to be very active in our church life, with over fifty percent of our membership being totally active in the church. In addition, we find that several of our members who left the church, or were born in the church hut did not become active members, share their deep interest in the Gary congregation, and volunteer their time and talents to help in church projects. This past year we had four baptisms, and confirmed two young adults as members of the church. Unfortunately, we also had four members called home by God. Our church redoubled its efforts to participate in the mission work. This year we also started a program for the helping of the unemployed families of the church. The Sunday School, which was inactive for four years started again. This year we are looking forward to the 70th Anniversary of the Church and ask the Lord’s Grace that we may be able to continue serving his community as we have in the past. HAMMOND, IND. Lelkipásztor: Dr. Donald G. Capp Paul L. Pavelka, Senior Elder. The year 1982 was a very good year for Faith United Church of Christ. Two very important events that brought new life and hope to the church were the installation of the Rev. Dr. Donald G. Capp as pastor of the church and the celebration of the church’s 75th Anniversary. On June 6, 1982, under the auspices of the Rt. Rev. John Butosi, Bishop of the Calvin Synod, Mr. Capp was installed as the eleventh pastor of Faith Church. Participating in the Service of Installation were ministers of the Western Classis and the Northwest Association of the Indiana-Kentucky Conference, United Church of Christ. The sermon entitled, “The Sound of Closing Doors” was delivered by the Rev. Margaret Beretz, daughter of the late Bishop Arpad Beretz. The Rev. Capp was presented to the Bishop by the Senior Elder, Paul L. Pavelka. The Rev. Desmond D. Parragh requested the Bishop to install the Rev. Mr. Capp as Pastor of the church. Dr. John Butosi, Bishop, and acting for the Calvin Synod, asked the constitutional questions and proceeded to the Order of Installation. Special music for the service was presented by the Chancel Choir under the direction of Ruth Bancsi, Minister of Music. The Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Donald G. Capp, the first non-Hungarian speaking pastor in the history of the church pronounced the benediction in Hungarian. A dinner prepared by the Ladies’ Aid followed the Service of Installation.
