Bethlen Naptár, 1981 (Ligonier)

Egyesült Államok - Az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház

1981 BETHLEN NAPTAR 131 McKEESPORT, PA. — Lelkészi állás üresedésben * The year 1980 started with a church free of all mortgage obligations .and with our spiritual needs capably served by Reverend Árpád Orosz. In January we elected new church officers—Edward Jordanhazy chief elder, Arthur Papp vice chief elder, Robert Jordanhazy treasurer, Karen Marinello secretary. We agreed to dispense with the building fund and established a maintenance fund. We had some major repairs on the church building. In an effort to stop excessive water damage we contracted to have the work done by Pridemark. We also needed reapirs on our air conditioning system and lesser repairs on the house owned by the church and occupied by the family of our maintenance man. The social activities group headed by Arthur Papp has done an excellent job with Friday night bingo which is very successful and had added much to our church operation. As the church has needed monies, the social activities group has given to defray costs or at times has assumed the complete responsibility of payment. Our women’s Guild has always been an integral part of the working church and they have contributed financially to defray costs also. Under the capable hands of President, Norma Jordanhazy it has retained its name as a vital mainstay of the church. They served an annual Shrine league dinner and prepared and served at funerals and other social occasions. Although International Villages has always been a project of the Guild, this year the entire church was asked to contribute time and money to make this three day event another successful church project. The women of the Guild spent many hours preparing baked items for the event. The Christian Fellowship had a Flea Market and bake sale in May. This group handles Easter and Christmas flowers and church decorations. They sponsored an Eastern Egg Hunt for the children at Easter. On Father’s Day the Guild women prepared dinner for the men of the church. On Mother’s Day the men did all the preparation and served the women of the church. Reverend Árpád Orosz resigned as pastor of our church effective August 31, 1980 to accept a new calling in Ohio. We enjoyed his pastorate, his wife, Elizabeth and their two small sons. We regret his departure and are presently in pursuit of a capable minister. Presently we are having interim visiting ministers. We have not acquired any new church properties nor sold any existing property. We enter 1981 with four young people enrolled in our confirmation class. We look forward to the new year with a desire to grow spiritually as well as physically. Grace Kontz
