Greetings to our Christian brothers and sisters around the world! A year ago, we closed our message in the 1980 edition of the Bethlen Naptár with the following words: “We look forward with great anticipation to 1980. With the Lord’s help, the new year will be one of worship, celebration, growth and sharing.” One year later, we can happily and thankfully report that all of the above have taken place. Highlights of our church’s life are as follows: Worship: The worship of God continues to be the central activity at Calvin Church. Each week more than 200 people gather for our Hungarian and English worship services. Church members are encouraged to assist in the leading of worship and the confirmation class does go on a regular basis as part of their program. The Sr. and Jr. Choirs, under the direction of Mr. Durand Porter and Mrs. Sheila Marciniak, contribute their talents to each week’s worship experience. Christian Education: Under the experienced leadership of Miss Ethel Molnár and Mr. Louis Sendi, our Church School has an enrollment of more than 100 young people. Our new Bible Study group meets twice monthly, while our Christian Education Committee schedule monthly forums on important issues. Vacation Bible School, Confirmation Camp, Advent and Lenten study groups are all part of our Christian Education program. Service: A hard working Calvin Auxiliary and Lorántffy Nőegylet each month prepare kolbász, noodles and fánk for sale to church and community members. Currently, our big project within the church is the repair of our school’s roof and the rebuilding of the church steeple. We continue to be involved in working for our neighborhood through membership in the Birmingham Neighborhood Coalition. In addition, we are active in the Toledo Area Council of Churches and support many domestic and overseas missions of the United Church of Christ.
