The Ladies’ Aid Society, under the leadership of Mrs. Helen Gergely, president, and Ms. Mary Pandak, vice president, again had a most successful year. Their gift to the church in 1978 was $8,200.00. For the dedication of the new parsonage in May, 1979, the Ladies’ Aid Society made a gift of $6,000.00 for the new parsonage.

The church finances for the year 1978 were Income: $113,813.23; Disbursements: $132,001.15; Balance December 31, 1978: $56,128.77.

May God continue to bless this congregation which has a great potential in witnessing for the Lord if only we can rise and meet the challenge.

ST. JOHN’S TO HAVE FIRST HUSBAND-WIFE MINISTRY

St. John’s United Church of Christ at Chesterton, Indiana, will pioneer husband and wife job sharing as they fill the pastorate with the Rev. Margaret Beretz and the Rev. Donald Kelley. This fills an 11th month vacancy.

Estimates place the number of clergy couples in this country between 650 to 1,000. This is about one per cent of the ordained clergy in the United States. This number is expected to increase in years ahead, however, because half of those studying for the ministry are women.

Husbands and wives ordained for the Christian ministry now serve as teams in 13 Protestant denominations. The 2nd largest number of clergy couples are ordained in the United Church of Christ with 100.

The Reverend Margaret Beretz is a graduate of Hope College and received her Master of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. Margaret also studied in the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va. This past summer she served as associate- pastor of the Faith United Church of Christ in Hammond.

Rev. Donald Kelley is a graduate of Robert Wesleyan College in New York and received his Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary. At Union Seminary is where Rev. Kelley and Rev. Beretz met and married in July of 1978.

Gyülekezetünk 1980-ban ünnepli fennállásának 55-ik évét East Chicago területén az Inland és a Youngstown (jelenleg J. & L.) acélgyárak közvetlen közelében építette templomát, 1932-ben az egész világra kiterjedő gazdasági pangás (azaz depresszió) idejében. Az itt élő magyar reformátusok legnagyobb része erdélyi születésű vagy származású, ezekhez csatlakozott a kisebbszámú ugyancsak erdélyi unitáriusok és főképen vasmegyei evangélikusok. Lukács Antal építőmester irányítása mellett önkéntes munkaerők végezték a munkát. A téglákat, a vasalkatrészeket, az ajtókat, ablakokat mind lerombolt házakból szerezték. Az épülő templommal szemben egy magyar család főzött és háromszor naponta kaptak a munkások meleg ételt. Hetenkint más fűszer- és hentescég adományozta a nyersanyagokat. Tapol-
