Bethlen Naptár, 1980 (Ligonier)

Egyesült Államok - Kálvin Egyházkerület

1980 55 become pace setting pioneers in finding new solutions to this old problem. We believe that the greatest is yet to be! Our preaching-teaching ministry strived to be faithful to the Word of God, to our Creeds and to the reformed theological tradition. Our pulpit is Christ centered, the preaching is simple, direct and to the point: its intent is to lead men, women and children to the life-changing faith in Jesus Christ and to the service of His Kingdom. Sunday School, Vacation Bible School (Mrs. Candy Ernst teacher-superintendent, Mrs. Charlene Gergely teacher), weekly Bible studies, adult and children confirmation classes, young adult meetings, Bible study with the Consistory supported the weekly worship services and the seven times a year Holy Communion celebrations. Four lay members, Mr. John Bertok, Jr., Mrs. Yolanda Kardos, Mrs. Candy Ernst and Mrs. Fran Barnum substituted the Pastor in the pulpit during her vacation. The services of our organist, Mrs. Barbara Ruhe, greatly enhanced the beauty of our worship. Our church received a brand new piano from Mr. and Mrs. Elmor Crouch. This generous donation is dedicated especially U the teaching of our children. The congregation had a regular and a special meeting, a coffee social and a picnic. We hosted a Bethlen Home Sunday, the preparatory meetings of a regional elders’ conference, and that of the annual Women’s Spring Conference, the annual fall meeting of the Central Classis of the Calvin Synod Conference, a regional conference for elders, and the annual Women’s Spring Conference. We participated at the installation of the Reverend Nicholas Novak of Pittsburgh and that of the Reverend Csaba Orosz of McKeesport, as well as at the annual spring meeting of the Central Classis in Pittsburgh where our pastor was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Classis. Our Consistory Officers: (Mr. Richard W. Kyslinger, Chief Elder, Mr. Joseph Sabo, Jr., Vice Chief-Elder, Mr. John Bertok, Jr., Treasurer, Mr. Andrew Balogh, Auditor) had twelve regular meetings, one special meeting, and accomplished several projects, such as the Plexgyas protection of our largest stained glass window in the sanctuary, as well as three other smaller ones in the auditorium. They had the gutter leakage fixed on the church building, helped with several minor repairs and faithfully carried their responsible share in our well-established and growing kolbaszmaking project. Their faithful stewardship was a great asset for our congregation. The Women’s Guild (Mrs. Yolanda Kardos, President, Mrs. Fran Barnum, Secretary-Treasurer) threw a lovely Christmas party for our Children, participated at the Good Neighbor Day (and made the greatest net income in recent years!), made delicious kolbász every month, kept a permanent mini-bazaar going all the year, had a raffle, a rummage sale, a refund project, donated $1,200.00 toward the large Plexyglas window, bought a new frigidaire and a freezer for our church. The ladies (sometimes accompanied by consistory members) visited the Bethlen Home several times, took beautiful gifts to our loved ones there and helped at the time of need during the January strike. We really do not know what we would do without them!
