Egyesült Államok - Az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház

108 BETHLEN NAPTÁR ary elders: Steve Albert,, Joseph Doch, Louish Kish, Charles Kosa, Sr., and Elizabeth Lovas. On November 18th, the congregation, its friends and neighbors gathered for a special organ concert to celebrate the completion of the rebuilding and repairing of the church organ. The guest organist was James A Stokes of Princeton, New Jersey, who is an organ-builder employed by the Church organ Company. This “unusually good” and delightful little old organ” was originally built in 1883 and presented to the “St. Peterskirche” (St. Peter’s German Evangelical Church) by Balthazar Krescher, who also donated the newly built church to the congregation on Staten Island. By 1919 the membership of the German congregation had dwindled and the new Hungarian Reformed Church organized three years earlier bought the church building with the organ. During the last several years, several other church property restoration projects have been completed in order to preserve and beautify the church. In 1979 in addition to the rebuilding of the church organ, other major repairs and improvements were carried out on the church, including such necessary extensive repairs to the septic system, landscaping, boiler and heating maintenance. The annual picnic held on the church grounds on August 19 attracted some 200 members and friends. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day dinners were held again this year. The men and women of the congregation work together in preparing several kolbász sales each year. The annual bazaar planned and conducted by the Women’s Guild on September 29 and on October 6 was a tremendous success. Other activities arranged by the Guild included several Chinese Auctions, Strawberry Festival and a Christmas Party. The Women’s Guild also hosted the 20th annual Conference of Church Women United — Eastern Division on May 6th. The membership of the congregation numbers 70. In 1978 three new adult members were received; two weddings were performed, four funeral services were conducted; no baptisms were recorded. In 1979 two children began preparing for confirmation in 1981 and the Sunday School meets regularly at 9:00 o’clock. The church choir sings during holiday worship services. During this 63rd year of the congregation, the Word was preached each Sunday in 1979, when the members gathered for worship services conducted in Hungarian at 10:00 and in English at 11:00 o’clock.
