152 BETHLEN ALMANAC Our New Church Under Construction in New York City. BRONX, New York The cornerstone of the new Hungarian Reformed Church in the heart of New York City was laid on May 3rd with the participation of the Bishop and officials of the Eastern Classis. Not only the members of the two churches in New York, but the sister churches have contributed towards the Building Fund. The donations of the church members, Hungarians in New York and sister churches were accompanied by a generous loan of the Hungarian Reformed Federation in America. On December 20th 1958, our church has celebrated its 20th anniversary. NEW YORK. 11th Street We quote from the Classical Minutes of April 1959: “The work of the New York 11th Street Church has been continued in the usual lively manner. They celebrated their 35th anniversary on November 9th. The sermon was preached by the Dean of the Eastern Classis. The Church Council and the Congregational Meeting has decided unanimously to unite with the other New York Congregation and expects with joy the time, when both churches will worship together as the two sessions, pastors and women guilds have united.” BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania The Hungarian Reformed Church of Bethlehem was constituted as a congregation 8 years ago. Two lots, the Church building, the parsonage and garage buildings indicate the external progress of the congregation. Spiritually the Congregation has advanced much to become a real building of Christ’s body. The officers of the Church were as follows in 1959: John Voros, Chief Elder; Edmund Erdei and George Kery, Vice Chief Elder; Alexander Chomos, secretary; Andrew Remenar, honorary treasurer; Charles E. Nemeth, Treasurer; László Fekete, Auditor; Andrew Thuroczy, Comptroller.
