Bethlen Almanac

BETHLEN ALMANAC 141 and the teaching in classes was carried on by Judy Vargo, Lydia Konkoly, Diane Molnár, Janet Varga, Helen Soltes and recently by Esther Papp as teachers. During the winter and spring months the congregation members felt the pinch of the temporary economic recess. By the aid of some civic organizations the pastor and Mrs. Tobias, the president of the Ladies Aid Society, succeeded in placing many unemployed members and friends. The members of the older generation are getting gradually unable to keep up the work, they are getting sickly or going into pension and consequently are unable to take an active part and able to support financially the church as they would like to. We hope that the younger generation will feel more responsibility to take the place of their parents. We also hope that more of our non Hungarian neighbors will feel at home in worshipping with the congregation. Many of the members feel convinced that the church which was founded by the Great Shepherd belongs not only to their own nationality but to all people who believe in Him. It is good to see that the congregation is taking a more active part in the denominational work which includes World Service, Mission and the United Synodical Appeal. The latter is the work of the South Wisconsin Synod which helps eight institutions, among which are the Deaconess Hospital of Milwaukee, the Old People’s Home at Cedar Lake, Elmhurst College and others. In addition to these things the congregation still helps in a small way the Old People’s and Orphans Home at Ligonier, Pa. Much work was done about the grounds and buildings of the church. So the parsonage received an insulation by the financial help of the Ladies Aid Society. All this was possible because members and organizations cooperated for one great cause. And the future will also look bright if members and organizations will contine to work together and pray together. The marriage of the Rev. John and Mrs. Anny Szucs. (In the background are the Rev. Dr. Paul C. Kehle, President of South Wisconsin Synod, and the Rev. Arpad George of Chicago, 111.
